Democracy in Pakistan

Do you think that assassination of Benazir Bhutto is the most serious setback for democracy in Pakistan?Would democracy survive in Pakistan?

Lp53 says: On the contrary, there is a silver lining to the darkest clouds. The population may now finally be fed up with the gore brought upon them by the soldier-mullah-jehadi trinity.

Virtualscorpio says:I suppose it is presently a big setback. The country wud be initially pushed into anachry, militance etc. How soon can the masses rise up is 2 be seen, but seems remote. Any killing is to be abhored & shunned :((

Busybee says: I agree with LP. It will rise like a phoenix... once the people get fed up of killed at the whims and fancies of terrorists.

Tejbir says: it is a setback atleast for the system of democracy and it was all that one could expect if, as someone wrote in an article in Business Line "imposition of democracy is frought with such incidents"

Abx says:democracy is a dream for pakistan. it won't be there till miondset of the people there changes.

Wise donkee says: its a setback but it doesnt mean the situation is utterly hopeless.

Niceguy251 says: Her being killed is surely a setback as it was expected that she would be the next PM with US backing. She would have tried to set things right. However such sad happenings do not leave permanant gap. Hopefully people of Pakistan will rise to the occassion and see that democracy is finally restored. Let us all pray for that. it is definitely needed at this hour.

Supreme Court and Tenants

The Supreme Court has put up a "good behaviour" signal for tenants, making it clear that those who misbehave with the owner of the premises are liable for eviction. Do you think that this law will put the tenants in a more difficult situation ?

Niceguy251 says: As it is one finds it hard to get a house on rent with "hazar nakhrays" of landlords asking for company lease or short period lease etc, this will definitely used for harrassment by some of the landlords who just wish to get higher rentals.

LP53 says: The 'signal' is directed at the legislators to remind them their task. Juidiciary , howsoever reformist orientated, is not the arbiter of social issues.

Ruggedboyz says:now i dont want to look at this issue in a cynical way but instead; i did want to think why did supreme court do this and what was going through their, mind when they thought of doing it offcourse supreme court didnt want to give tenants a tough time the intention was for giving the owner of a property the powet to retain their space without many hassles also this did keep the vandalism of tenants at bay and thus make more people rent houses for they will be not be the same anxious souls before they rent their place as they were before

Virtualscorpio says:Most laws r made to help people. In India, most laws are misused & the common man is harrased. Somebody getting a better rent 4 his premises, midway during a tenure will just evict the tenent, citing bad behaviour...Phir ladtey raho.. :((

Lionking says:it is good that the supreme court has set some guidelines for tenents in regard their behaviour, when they take a house on rent. That is good. but, there should also be some guidelines framed against those owners who rent their houses and profit by taking rent, so that these owners dont harress the tenents too... there should be a two way set guidelines ... and not just guidelines targetted at one party.

Tejbir says: this i guess will give rise to slew of frivolous cases on basis of misbehavior from land lords i hope we get to see some objective law formation in this matter

L. K. Advani as a Prime minister candidate

BJP has announced the the name of L. K. Advani as a party's prime minister candidate.Do you think that this decision will benefit BJP?

LP says:LK advani must mellow if he should lead BJP to power.

Lionking says: BJP has no other option but to choose Advani as the PM candidate ... Vajpayee has to slip into political oblivion as age is the factor against him. But, BJP also has to also contend with Narendra Modi phenomenon ... if modi wins the gujarat election, then as rightly pointed by the PM MMS Modi could get a hold of the National BJP itself !!!! Hence the urgent announcement of the BJP to make Advani as the PM candidate. but, have to confess ... Advaniji is a legend in his own right ... a thorough politican tactician and i think this is the right choice of the BJP ... although in a somewhat desperate condition. all the problems of the BJP is because it is not in power ... once it comes to power one can see that BJP again become a healthy party ... which i hope it will become.

Ruggedboyz says: it is only deplorable to see LK advani as the PM candidate for the nation where the majority is filled with young blood and their is so much talk and need for young blood to be and rule in politics the step is diffo a step in the backward directions lets hope the largest party of the nation gains a perspective and thinks better before taking a major decision like this that shall govern the life of the billions in this neck of the woods

Tejbir says:IMHO the whole of India will benefit if Advani becomes the PM atleast he has his mouth and mind well connected unlike current puppet!

Niceguy251 says:In the present context BJP had no choice but to make this annoucement. Mr Advani is well versed in the art of politics and is a good orator also. Only thing which he has to remember is that he has to lead the country and not a particular group or segment. He should pick team with young blood if he does come to power as PM.

Virtualscorpio says: Shri Vajpayee & Shri Advani are head and shoulders above any politician.
Unfortunately, Vajpayee is now old & Advani is the best bet to lead the country to a better, less corrupt tomorrow. All he needs is a majority. Only Congress politician I had regard for was Shri PV Narsimha Rao, Unfortunately, Shri Manmohan Singh has become a stooge in the hands of you know who...

Abx says:Political desions rarely benifit the country

BPO and Female Cab Driver

To make women working in BPOs feel safe, there is a plan to employ female cab drivers.Do you think that this experiment will work?

Lostpatrol53 says: what about the safety of women cabbies?

Virtualscorpio says: I dont think this is a practical. Its like throwing out the baby with the water. no solution. This cud lead to having 2 victims instead of only 1.

Naveen AKA Guy_On_Black_YBX says: Was bout say the same as LP ji. BTW how many of these drivers would willing to drive at night. I mean number of women drivers vs number of Men

Lionking says: i heard that these women cab drivers are given courses of self defence like karate, etc. but, as naveen mentioned ... these women cab drivers should be tried in the day shifts first ... and after seeing their results ... they can be tried in around the clock. in hyd, we have women conductors in the state transport busses ... so i dont see why there would be any problem for women in daylight. but, sure this is going to be quite a risky proposition both for the cab service operators and the women cab drivers themselves. the best part in the service is that the drivers are given their own walky talky so that they can remain in touch with the control room ... and possible with the police.

Niceguy251says: There is no harm in trying this but this is purely a knee jerk reaction. There are definitely more adequate ways to ensure safety of women employees with male drivers too if one really wants to do so. But even simple safeguards are overlooked due to cutting corners for saving expences.

Indian laws and rapidly changing Society

Almost 3 Crore Cases Pending in Indian Courts.Do you think that Indian laws have failed to keep pace with change ?

Ruggedboyz said...
the fact that their are 3 crore cases pending is not just a mirror that reflects that the judicial system in india hasnt delivered it also is a loss in faith of those thousands who thought that indian judicial system could get justice to them it also signifies the powerful can procastinate things and live a happy life and die their natural deaths but the judicail case still is on in the court sorry state of affair clearly here

Virtualscorpio said...
There can be no denying the fact that Indian laws have failed 2 keep pace wid the changing times. I wud go & add that a lot of things in India have failed 2 keep pace wid the changing times. Yes, we have taken giant strides in IT sector etc, yet basic things wid vast majority of Indians remain primitive.

GussaWaala said...
A key descriptor of a democracy is euql rights and freedom. Just how does a nation provide that without offering justice to its citizen? Think about it...... India need a judicial revolution, not just a reform.

Lionking said...
it indeed sad to note that 3 crores cases are pending in Indian Courts. This can be best seen in the recent advertisement of Plywood, wherein the case of some young people drags on till they become old, and still after that the case is adjourned. the first thing is the lawyers reluctance to get a final verdict on the case, fearing that their Case money would be deprived off them if the case is closed earlier. second, the ignorance of the common people who have not enough knowledge of the legal procedures, and tend to wholly depend on the lawyers, and find that their verdict is being postponed because of the first reason mentioned above. third, not enough Law Staff to deal with the ever increasing cases, and the government giving a blind eye on the matter. fourth, political motives which would like to have the cases drag on instead of complete closure of the cases. fifth, the complexity of the indian laws make it much time consuming process, hence the delay. all the reasons mentioned above do contribute to the adding up of the cases.

Lp said...
Too verbose lawyers, and too many laws, too little jurisprudence....that is my country

Busybee said...
Ofcourse !! no scope fr debate there at all.

Niceguy251 said...
This surely looks very sad state of affairs. What we need is proper analysis. Out of these 3 crores pending cases how many are at which level of courts, how many fall under petty cases category and last but not the least how many have had NO progress for the last six months or more due to non attendance of either party by virtue of taking shelter behind medical or legal excuse. Once this study is done it may be that most of these are either trival cases or manipulated for dates. That is where law needs to change with times to keep pace.

Gurdwara and dipping sex ratio

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC), has announced that it will step in to adopt the abandoned baby girls. In its urgent effort to erase Punjab's darkest gender blot, SGPC will soon ask important gurdwaras in Punjab to place cradles at their entrances and exhort unhappy parents obsessed with boys to leave "those innocent children at god's door, not death's". Do you think that this initiative will be helpful in controlling state's dipping sex ratio and terror tales of girls, both born and unborn, being killed or left to die?
ABX said...
it is one of the move for the nobal couase

Naveen said...
Rightly said by ABX its a Nobel cause atleast innocent lifes will be saved. But may not effect the sex ratio.

Lost Girl said...
Noble cause, Of course. Sex Ration, No-one can ever be sure about that.

Virtualscorpio said...
A wonderful gesture indeed. Given the Indian context it cud become counterproductive. People now will have an unobstructed outlet to leave such child girls, fully aware that gud care wud be taken. This geture has to be rigoursly followed up wid educating the younger masses the moral implications of their deeds. If this kinds of education/culture be inculcated that the girl child is as gud if not better, then the positioning of cradles wud serve as the first step in the right direction.

Niceguy251 said...
Very noble gesture but now it depends on implementation and how society takes it forward. Many a good natured benevolent schemes have been lost due to faulty follow up and vested interests.

Wise donkee said...
religion is useful, but unless there is a social responsibility on girls to take care of parents , the problem wont go away

Lionking said...
the initiative taken by gurudwara commitee is good on humanitarian grounds. but, it is worth reminding that girls also deserve family life like boys. so, it would be nice if gurudwara educates the people, to do away with the need for something like this. but, this initiative would be fine in the short-term basis.

GussaWaalasaid...
A good move but a better move would be to educate men and the general population on respecting women, human life, etc in addition to this new initiative.

Busybee said...
This wont change the sex ratio. This ratio is less becos of the abortions of female foetus, and not only the abandoning of girl babies. For the sex ratio to change, we need social engineering. Changing of mindsets.

Tejbir said...
this step to seems as if we are accepting the second rung status for girls & allowing people to abandon the girl child I would prefer if SGPC comes forward and takes the bold step of declaring all those who kill female foetuses/kill girls for dowry/rape/do atrocities on females as outcasts and orders the others to end any sort of relationship with such people I believe in small towns/villages this step can bring a difference.

Lp said...
There is some research work about relationship between stress of the mother during conception and the gender of the baby so concieved. gretaer stress means more girls...Husbands, take a cue from this, daddies love girls anyway..:p

Industry and Environment

A research paper says that India is getting about 5% less sunlight than it did 20 years ago.Do you think that increased industrial activity should be blamed for it?

Lp53 said...
Any kind animal and human activity will impact environment continuing the evolution of this planet. Global warming, solar dimming, running out of resources, ice caps melting, ploar bears flying, etc will be som eof the studies similar to those linking large hips to IQ, and height to sexual performace...:D

Savy said...
humanity's progress is inversaly proportional to the natural resources.

Virtualscorpio said...
No gain without pain so goes the saying. Progress will surely take its toll, that too when we, the human race begin to abuse nature beyond its point of tolerance. In as much as we enjoy the luxuries that modern science has brought to us, we have failed to respect nature. No other animal has abused nature & so still lives at peace wid nature.

Wise donkee said...
probably..

Haan Ye sach bhi hai. Udhyog Hamare Paryaavaran ko Pradushit kar rahe hai. Vaise Paryaavaran Pradushan ke kai kaarano me se ye bhi ek Badaa Karan hai.

Niceguy said...
I agree with VS " No gain without pain ". If you wish to enjoy comforts of advanced technology you have to pay the price too. Do you think all the aircrafts flying around do not affect the atomsphere? Have you seen aviation fuel trails in the sky behind every aircraft under some weather conditions but it is so all the time? When our technological advancement reaches a point when it is beyond Mother Nature to accomodate, it will be the end.

Mukesh Ambani and India

Do you think that Mukesh Ambani has made India proud by becoming the richest person of the world?
Abx said...
first- he is not the richest person of the world second - even if he become, does that affect the living standard of millions of Indian people who do not get enough food to live.

Virtualscorpio said...
Yes - I would be proud 1. Hes an Indian. 2. wud disagree wid abx. Mukesh cannot take responsibility of all millions of Indians. Ur elected representatives shud have done that in the last 60 years. Yet thousands wud have gained meaningful employment & millions made money thru share market etc. 3. Such things motivates others to do better & confidence of fellow Indian Businessmen etc grows. 4. At a certain period of time, Indians weer the richest, in terms of wealth as well as spiritually. This is the first step towards gaining the no. 1 spot wealthwise. I suppose this should lead to spiritual upliftment also. When a person is fully fed & clothed, he then helps others.

Niceguy said...
He has still the same wealth what he had few days ago but with value of rupee going up he becomes richest in terms of US$. Wait till US$ get up again and then we will see. It does feel nice to have an Indian and not a person of Indian origin achieving some high. He should share it with his unfortunate countrymen by way of some meaningful social activity.

Admiration yes; pride, no.

Naveenkumar said...
I Don't think things like these make a country proud. Had it been Dhirubhai Ambani then it wud have been a different story.

GussaWaala said...
I don't see why this is an issue ofpride. Its good for him that he got rich becausing of a falling dollar. I will be proud the day there is justice, equality, no communal violence, no police brutality, and grossly reduced poverty in India. Oh! greatest moment of pride will be if India can get its population below a billion with an eventual goal of 600 million. These are achievemnts worthy of pride. One rich guy? Good for him, but who cares .... I agree with another poster, if this was achieved by Dirubhai, then yes it would be an achievemnet, for he actually created an empire out of nothing.

Ruggedboyz said...
look mukesh ambani for me offcourse is a source of pride for i can always brag before a bunch of non inidans of his achivements as an indian but more than that i am thankful to god that he had a vision and the drive to do it and offcourse his indulgence and boldness had made possible for huge employement and certain has effect the life of the common indian too its not just he and his relatives who benefitted from it

Ellen said...

Security for Netas

The Delhi high court deplored the practice of politicians moving around with gun-toting security gaurds, which has come be treated as a “status symbol” and causes inconvenience to public.A division bench headed by Justice T S Thakur said politicians were not a “national asset” that should be protected by so many security personnel.Do you agree with this statement?
Abx said...
101 % agreeed they have no right to enjoy the security on pubilc money in fact, these are the goons and need no prtection at all

Niceguy said...
ABSOLUTELY AGREE. It is grossly misused and public not only pays for it but is harrassed too.

Virtualscorpio said...
Its a stark reflection of the changed times. The great Mahatama walked all over India, only in his dhoti & a stick in hand. Today, The black cats, commondos & endless chain of chamchas. A sad reflection of the transition this class of Indian society has made.

Vrij said...
I have a better solution. Since each minister is going to be given multiple person security at each one's homes, why not pool all of them in one big house? That way we save a lot on security personnel. How abt a site on Arthur Road in Mumbai or Yerwada in Pune for starters?

Savy said...
this doewsnt even merit a discussion..being in power capital..it is a real pain to see these gun trotting guys every now n then..a big hindrance. and their coiterie should also be limited.

Navarati and Women

In Navarati we worship Goddess as a source of Sakthi(Power).
Do you think that people take some lessons from this festival?

Abx said...
most of us blindly worship gods n overlook the facts. people will worship but same time r not cocerned to care for women or fellow human beings in general

Frenchita said...
lot of hypocrisy about woman being shakti .. that's only in festivals .. reality is that "might is right " and "survival of the fittest " is what counts ..as has been shown down the ages .. agreed that women have come a long way earning repect and equality . .but if you think of this big bad world ...barring a few civilized countries... .rampant injustice against women prevails..

Tejbir said...
can we come out of classifying either of the sexes as powerful (shakti) etc either in sublime form (worship godesses) or in reality (men bashing up thier wives) a just society thrives on equality and not sublime or muscle power!

Ruggedboyz said...
now i have never ever understood the theory of "waqt aane per aaurat kalli ka roop dharan kar sakti hai” thing coz women are mild and mostly if not for tom boys do not love indulging in voilent acts so really have less clue on this

Lp53 said...
In 'ratri', women are worthy of worship; in 'daylight', men see clearly with eyes wide open!..:P

Niceguy said...
" Haathi ke daant dighane ke aur, aur khane ke aur ". I agree with Tejbir that a just society can thrive on equality only.

Indian Man and Wife

It is said about Indian man that he wants to see his wife as a Sati-Savitri ( not thinking about other person even in a dream).Do you think that he apply the same for himself (not thinking about other woman even in a dream)?

GussaWaala said...
LOL, I am a human first then a man. My mind goes all places, so why shouldn't any other human's mind?

Lp53 said...
Yeh Ander kii baat hei, mat poocch yaaaaaaaar!

Ruggedboyz said...
now i dd think that since u would expect the man and the women the equal rights and stuff so then we should allow them to do same thing with eachother ie if the man is loyal to his wife and doesnt date or think of other women then his demand is a valid one weather he is indian or african but if he himself is an infedel and then expects to see his women as sati savitri he should then be termed a criminal and then treated and retributed like one

Hershey Desai said...
man... I want a woman who is everything BUT a "sati savitri".Though, naturally I wouldn't be too fond of her dreaming of other guys... but then, the power of Hershey is strong enough to make sure that doesn't happen at all.And besides, dream all you want...atleast she sleeps next to you and not the ones who she dreams of

Frenchita said...
Indian man expects his future wife to be pure before marriage .to be loyal ..not to stray .. no such binding on him ..he is a free bird.. to some extent this is true of men all over the world . Ironic ,ain't it ?

Niceguy251 said...
It is a fact though one may say incorrect. However things are changing and men are accepting their would be s to have had an affair or so before marriage. However it is important for both to be loyal after marriage.

Abx said...
why only indian, every person wishes so........ why shen warne's wife seperated....

Tejbir said...
i have a solution for the men who feel threatened by the chance of their wives thinking about other men.... let men start "giving" dowry to girl's parents and then they can demand in return that the women will not think abt other men if the men cant give the dowry, they can't demand this thing and should accept women doing what they themselves do at every traffic signal/resturant/market etc. LOLZZZZZZ

Jojo said...
no, man definitely doesnt apply that to himself - he thinks he has the full right - the birthright actually to do as he pleases and the woman is there just to keep him happy! Most Asain men at least i would say. That is his upbringing and though times are changing now - it is a long and slow process...

Indian Women, Tradition and Career

Women in India is passing through the twilight zone of tradition and modernity. Caught between the home and office, they are engaged in a tough struggle for a viable position in their job.If tradition comes in the way of career, should they ignore it?

Frenchita said...
depends ..if the girls inlaws insist she stay at home and be a housewife ..she should not yield but continue her career if she wants to.... if her small kids need her and the baby sitter is lacking ...she should put her kids ahead of her job everything is possible if she has an understanding huband ..he is the key figure but generally speaking ..i feel a woman should maintain her career ...and be financially independent .and never take crap from her husband and society to hell with tradition ..

GussaWaala said...
People (men/women) need to make a choice of how they wish to live their lives and then they should live it that way. Simple.

VS said...
I suppose there cant be one single - either /or - situation. A lot depends on the location of the woman - metro/city/town/village. Traditions may have little values in big cities like Mumbai & career would be the only thing, yet in a smaller town , say in Bihar, the reverse would be true. Both would be correct in their respective conditions. The next factor, India being a large country, would be the family background, tradition, beliefs etc. as well as those of the family she goes to would matter. Ultimately, the decision should be based on firstly her choice, but also keeping in view the thinking of the family.

Imran said...
This Cant be answered in a sinngle sentence.. 1> maybe if she wants 2 give priority 2 career first and then the family and tradition, then she should talk abt it before the marriage..if they dont want her 2 work..She shud better enjoy being single..rather then having life long problems and unhapiness...kids,husbands,family all suffer..!! its all depends on common sense on both parts...and having thot abt the future rather then going with the heat of the Youthfull dreams... 2>maybe the in-laws would be ready for working women if she works for some years.. no problem here. 3> But please just dont take the west women as inspiration...Our tradition respects women more then them..and being more a "HomeMinister" isnt a bad thing...Why cant we teach this to the world.. Problems are already rife in the western society because of a permissive outlook and so-called freedom. in the name of modernity and equality, Those Women have neither gained liberty nor achieved equality. Rather they are losing their traditional place and responsibilities in the home.Being single or orthodox minded , they might have become the objects of exploitation , and the slogans of liberty and equality have or may virtually reduced them to playful commodities...

Tejbir said...
flower"pot" se lap"top" badiya hai!!!!!!!!

LP53 said...
Boys want working girls for a bride these days. After office, they manage teh househod too. That wayn women are really empowere: they get career and tradition!

Ellen said...
The question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. Tradition or career -- this should be settled early before marriage. Deciding that when already in the marriage isn't smart --it would invite more issues, division, or conflict in the home, with the children, or in relation to one's parents or in-laws. There will be no peace.

Shariq said...
IN todays world Money is the top requirement and as relationships are souring to their heights ...every gurl needs to be independent and which requires them to continue with their career after marriage too ...No one knows whts in store in the future ..so she should be prepared for it ...and cuttin off her carreer is a major risk....I SAY SHE SHOULD FIGHT FOR HER CAREER ALONG WITH HER MARRIAGE AND TO HELL WITH TRADITION ....Rest depends on how much she knows her husband ......and the finanical position of inlaws is very very gud ,,..thn she has an option of puttin it offfff

Ram Sethu and Development

Many environmentalists says that dredging of the canal may bring natural disaster, tidal waves, and cyclone also that where this dredged material will be disposed of. Should we ignore faith/belief/religion/feelings of millions if it come in the way of progress/technological development?

Vrij said...
A detour around Sri Lanka increases the distance by about 250kms max. Plus there is no restriction on number of vessels going on that route. However the SS project will make the speed of vessels go down so much that only about 6-8hrs would be saved. Plus only 10-15 vessels would be allowed in either direction per day. Considering the above and the fact that there is a stark contrast in the ecosystems of BoB and Indian ocean, there will surely be ecological damage of unprecedented volumes. The water flow/current directions are different in both the seas, and this is a natural protection against unwanted tropical filling in the BoB. Lets just forget the religious issue here. The enviro issue itself is just too great to ignore.

Abx said...
One should regard our belif and sentiments but should be practical enough for the developments of future.

Guy_on_black_YBX said...
Dil hai ki maanta nahi. I want Ram Sethu to be left alon n Vrij has given enough reasons.

GussaWaala said...
The Panama and suez canals made sense. How much are we saving here? This is not a religious issue, just a common sense issue. I personally do not see the point of risking an ecological change.

Lp53 said...
Despite best EIA, Engineering feasibility and techno-economic studies, development projects will raise local, social, political, ecological and emotional opposition. Ram Samudra Canal Project is being politicised to embarass inept handling of an affidavit in the court. Even Ram would not forgive such badnaami of his name. It isn't that the waters are separated. It isn't that ships aren't sailing. The waters are navigable. It is about dredging to allow larger, Cape or Supertankers and larger naval ships to pass. The project must go ahead. I would like the dredged earth to be used to create an island near Dhanuskodi. It should be include Ram Temple, a wonder of new world, and a large airport to bring in atleast 50 million religious tourists annually. Several ports shoudl be developed to organise eco-tourism, and other water sports...

Busybee said...
Wht environmental change ? the fishes can always evolve or adapt to suit the changes... and the dredging is not of the entire Ram setu.

NCERT and Evaluation Criteria

Concerned over increasing number of suicides among students, the NCERT, a central apex body, has suggested to schools across the country to replace the word fail with unsatisfactory or repeat.Do you think that this is a right move?
Guy_on_black_YBX says: said...

yes. atleast one doesnt think of oneself as a failure. but the problem is not just what one thinks, but the expectations of parents. unless parents behave differently, we cant expect a big difference in the suicide rate. parents and teachers must encourage and not discourage children who dont score the required marks..

naah ..based on the fact alone that live ins do more work than husbands ??? naaah if at all , girls like live in relationships its for for trial basis ..to test compatibility ..or just for fun ..without the hassles of a marriage ..and responsiblities of husbnd and in laws

Girish said...
I sure hope so =)

Look at the guys' reactions - unbelievable ;-)But, naah...I dont think just a survey will influence such important decisions whether its live-in or marriage.

Tejbir said...
ye depend karta hai ki live-in actually kahan hai... if girl's home then, obviously no choice guy will have to work if he doesn't want to pay the house rent!

Lavina said...
Either ways its inviting trouble!! :P Why not legalise things to make life a little easier then?? :))

Anjali said...
wat i hv felt, liv-in is where both d partners r always ready to go extra mile for each other........which lacks in marriage....and yes men do more work as liv-in bf..............but i don't think only for dis reason women want to hv liv ins.........dere r so many things to consider.

Ellen said...
Ugh! who did that survey?! How could they make such a sweeping statement; it's taken case to case. lols I think that marriage, live-in, or any other relationship for that matter, would truly depend on the persons involved in it. I see some marriages in which the husband shares in the housework beautifully ....and some live-in arrangements in which the male is such a big lazy inconsiderate slob. What would make this work or make the male actively involved in the responsibilities of keeping house is a no-nonsense approach to this kind of issue. A broader understanding of expectations obligations and responsibilities and a realistic view of the marriage can pave the way for doing what should be jointly done in the home. The old Stereotypes of male and female roles are disappearing and replaced by this kind of give-and-take environment in home management. I don't believe that one should do specific things just because she is female... or rather that one should not do anything that a female is expected to do because he is male. That doesn't work anymore. It's old school. A relationship of sharing has a better chance of making it in this rough and tumble world of marriages or live-in's. The thing is know your own strengths and weaknesses, communicate it, and put these to good and better use in your home with your partner for the kind of life you both mutually agree to have.

Wise donkee said...
Hopefully, it would, since legally, physically, and financially, in the context of Our Constitution, live in relationships are better for women than a married relationship. Marriage is merely an illusion of security. Live in legally has the following advantages for women. 1.Rape is not a crime if committed by a husband but a crime if committed by the boyfriend. So a woman has basic control over her body. 2.Women in live in dont have illusions of financial security, a married woman thinks her husband will take care of her financially, but in the event of divorce, no hard assets and no portion of his investments, provident fund or pension would come to her. Even alimony,is at the judge's discretion and based on her husband's income. The most she could hope for, would be one-fifth of the husband's pre-tax (roughly a third of his post-tax) income as alimony. And that too has to be proved by her. A woman in a live is more likely to think about financial planning than a wife. And the element of dowry gets missed in live-ins. 3.Wives are not natural guardians or even co-guardians of their children. A woman had to go to Supreme Court to open even a bank deposit in her son's name. But thats not the case when it comes to a live in. So its not a bad deal even for the children in the relationship. 4.Wives are not supposed to look care for their parents. As long as this happens, female foeticide will continue, and that means less brides for men. While in live in, its easier for her to take care of her parents financially and emotionally. 5.Emotionally none who get divorced think during their marriage, that it could end in divorce. Atleast in live-ins people are better prepared for a split. In marriage, the focus is on a grand wedding but not the relationship after it. And the appearance of a happy relationship. But in live in, the focus is on the couple. Ultimately it depends on the couple. But the sensible option for women, is definitely live in, in the current social-legal environment.

Geetanjali Nagpal and Glamour world

Geetanjali Nagpal , a former super model who once walked the ramp with Sushmita Sen, is forced to lead a desolate life on the streets of Delhi .
Do you think that this news will force people to see
other side of glamour world ?

I have written on this couple of days ago. It is sad but what are we doing to get to root cause of this malady? There are many Gitus or even Jitus. Media should play a positive role insted of just making news sensational. They should try to find what caused her to reach this state and bring that out so near & dear ones can check it for the probable victims.

Not really. Most of the girls are aware of the short lifespan of this career before they step into the glamour world.

No this wont make any difference. there are many models and wannabe starlets like Gitanjali who take up prostitution to maintain a lifestyle and be seen at all the happening places in Mumbai. A few manage to make it while most dont... and slip away to oblivion. But why such concern for one human being when there are so many like her around ? She went off track on her own, whereas most of the girls in Mumbai's red light area have been forced into prostitution..

Salman Khan and Chinkara shooting case

Salman Khan's role in chinkara shooting case gives a lesson that be it a celebrity or the common man, people should know their line of limits and not be cruel to animals, as they are dumb and cannot express their pain or suffering .
Do you agree with this statement?

Sumit said...
Usually we should not be cruel towards animals, but self defence against Stray Dogs and Lizards is Justified i guess (kidding)...however, I would love to see an example that can teach the terrorists to be kind towards humans.

Frenchita said...
I more than agree... not just a lesson .b ut punishment should be meted out ..and executed .. so why is he given bail totally biased .is it .because he is a celebrity that he got away .. ? wat a shame !

cruelty not only against animals but aginst anybody(even nature) should be punished. Equality before law is also justified.

ITS LAW, STUPID (Hunting protected species is breaking law. Anyone, Salman included, that breaks ANY law should be prosecuted quickly and punished. Not drag the cases for years. Cruelty to animals is not the issue.)

Ban on Women Bartenders

Delhi Government feels that there should be a ban on women bartenders in the city. Reason-Men often make advances towards women under influence of liquor leading to offensive behaviour which is an affront to the dignity of women .
Do you think that Ban is justified?

Savy said...
if men get drunk n misbehave..they do so with all the females around them..a lil more so with female bartenders...but a ban? this sounds so immature.

Abx said...
Ban for what? they know that they r in the profession where everyone is in hangover. better they shouldn't accept that job.

nz said...
totally agree with above comments.

Lavina said...
who is it?? All set to protect the women????

Frenchita said...
Yes ... in Delhi , women in any profession are liable to be harassed eh he :-) even 80 year olds !!

Sumit said...
A ban would be a stupidity. If women who face this so called offensive behavoir, why is the govt. having problem.... and if they categorise men as those who misbehave, they should infact ban women going to bars in any form... :p

Cheetah said...
we can ban all these things later when we feel we are safe from terrorists and enemies who plant bombs everywhere. Let the government first look into what is happening with these bloody acts and later various bans.

Chakoli said...
What nonsense.... Men will be men...and they dont need liquor to act up...they can act at any moment... Even offices and DTC buses faces so many sexual harrasements....so they shud also be ban.... our govt has gone nuts... instead of making laws strict and protecting them...they are trtying to get on safer side... ridiculous...

Wise donkee said...
Drunken driving is far more serious, let the govt concentrate on that. Instead of banning, perhaps the bars must ensure, the women can get away with slapping the man back, if any advance is made..instead of please the customer attitude..How may women behind the bar are in a postition to refuse advances? Many would have a different view point if it was their mother sister or wife behind the bar..

Tejbir said...
arey mere bhai first you tell me which bar in Delhi has women bartenders? before they impose the ban lemme visit it yaar LOL

Surabhi said...
no point in a ban...when a woman opts for this profession she knows what shes getting into..and anyway...women will be misbehaved with..profession no profession!

Women and HR Profession

Women are more Successful than Men as a HR Professional beacause listening, understanding, empathising and helping comes more naturally to women.
Do you agree with this fact?

LP53 said...
Hmmm.. As a married man, don't agree with "listening ...comes naturally to women". Are biwis not women, if that is true? Power talks. Often HR wallows in 'control' mindset. Power has no gender bias. It corrupts equally, men and women alike. Ask any woman on top; she knows

Abx said...
it depends on individual..........weather man or women.

Sumit said...
Though success is a relative term, women certainly have some advantage on these skills.

nz said...
Why just HR ? I think women are successful in every profession because of all the qualities you mentioned and because they are smart and intelligent !!

Rekha said...
I think women react emotionally faster than men and this turns out to be advantageous to them as HR PROFESSIONALS ....but as far as listening, understanding, empathising n helping goes.....it depends upon person to person....... to be a successful HR PROFESSIONAL .....all u need is a good mix of FEMININE AND MASCULINE TRAITS ......so anybody who possess it (be it a man or woman) would be successful ......

Wise donkee said...
men have equal chances of success, as women, in every field:

Vrij said...
Totally agree.. nahin toh biwi maaregi.. after all she too is a HR professional!

Sk said...
yaa i agree.....because womens have the equal right to do what c wants n c is is capable too to handle anykind of situations like man

Ellen said...
I think both genders would do equally well at the job. :-) No argument there. I've seen my friends, male and female, excelling at their HR posts. It's not who's better at it, but rather who can be more effective with using the talents GOD provided each one of the two genders separately and distinctly. Women are equipped by an all-wise and knowing God with the distinct ability to NURTURE growth - development - maturity in a person. Nurturing or the mother instinct as commonly known therefore is a woman's basic function. That, as I understand it, can work wonders in a people-oriented job as HR. While the men, as is generally known, are more adept with facts and figures thus are far more capable of executing firm policies, rules, and company regulations decisively. I think the two can work together complementing each other 's roles. One can fill-in the other person's weakness with his or her own strength and vice-versa. That can be a power-packed duo to beat!

Redivider said...
As a perennial cynic myself, will you permit me to ask 'do all women qualify?' would there be no 'degree of difference' if they happen to be Single, married and divorced? I dont think we can generalize this, can we?

FIR for scolding student in class

Expanding the definition of corporal punishment to cover any form of adverse treatment—from scolding to death—the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has urged parents to be fearless in filing FIRs against schools if children complain of such abuse.
Do you think that
scolding a student for his/her mistakes is a crime?

Ellen said...
Children come to school to learn. If they make mistakes in the classroom and surely they would, the teacher should focus on the learning opportunity of that moment. Because the greatest lessons can be had and learned through one's honest mistakes, whether inside or outside of the classroom.

LP53 said...
Spare the rod, spoil the teacher? Use it on his/her behind! Teachers need punishment. They don't learn nothing! Esp, to deal with cute little goon.da(i)s.

nz said...
Even though I am totally against hurting/abusing a child or student but there should be some sort of consequences for misbehaviour otherwise kids will get out of hands and India will face the same situation as most of the western world where parents or teachers cant do much and the teenagers are getting into crime and ending up in prisons. may be encouraging positrive behaviour, talking to parents or counselling should be considered as some of the options but children should know that there should be some consequence if they dont follow the rules.

Frenchita said...
dont know about death ..in schools ...thats too much punishment ..he he ...but scoldings are ok . teachers should implement when necessary and effective . for some students ...its water off a duck's back ..no use :( .then dont spare the rod ..parents should be cooperative wiht teachers too and teacher should not over do it either ...

Sumit said...
Schools are temples of learning, and apart from bookish lessons their are moral lessons to be learnt, which include that if you make mistakes without learning from them, you are bound to be punished .. so if we take the scolding or punishing part out the equation, children might be inclined towards making same mistakes again and again and not learn from them. There have been rare cases of teachers who have gone to extremes in punishing the students (which are bad) but the whole thing has been blown out of proportion (again by media), and people are now using it to tarnish the image of Teachers in general.

Tejbir said...
how i remember those slaps from the class teacher and principal whatever it felt then those slaps and the moments are fond memories now!

Dr. Kalam, or any ex-president for that matter, can make himself still very useful to his country. There's an old expression which goes this way.... -----------''Been there, done that!"--------------- That's what he's got -- experience. He knows about government and governance and bout major issues concerning the country and its people far more than the ordinary person on the street. Because he has lived walked and slept with it in his term. Let him put that knowledge to good use and stand as a guardian to India's journey to its future.

Frenchita said…
yes .. and we all know what kind of restrictions ..on what kind of clothes ..applies to the girls mostly ..but may apply to boys also ...like very short short shorts or tightttt jeans or footwear required ... more important than that is to enforce that the students attend classes or else be made to fail ..

Chakoli said…

Vrij said…
Yes. They should. Guys shud wear only jeans n t-shirts. Girls shud preferably be in undergarments or lesser.

Wise donkey said…
no. if 18 year olds can vote, why cant they have the right to dress, the way they want.. re the provocative, whats provocative to one, need not be provocative to another.

Ellen said…
I believe that in every person's closet are different sets of clothes -- one for every place, purpose, and occasion. Casual for everyday wear, modest for church, business for board meets, gowns for gala nights, play garbs for sports , etc etc. School wear can't be any different. The thing is--- it is a place for learning. And the least distractions one gets or gives should be the norm or dress etiquette. That carries on to one's style of dressing. The girls should not bare themselves unrestrained; that should be reserved for glamorous evening wear or for frolic on the beach with beach attire. The guys could also exercise some restraint in wearing those heavy leather jackets; those belong on big motorbikes and in the winter season. It's plain old common sense and respect - you find yourself in a particular place for a particular reason. So then think, speak, act, and dress accordingly. Unless you're there for a different reason.

New 7 wonders of the world and textbook

Do you think that new 7 wonders of the world should be included in textbook?

LP53 said…
Why not, let' s begin in Mexico...

Lavina said…
was this whole exercise all that authentic?

Redivider said…
We cannot create a parallel institution or organization by 'essemessization'. The votes on SMSs do not confer a status contrary to what UNESCO says. In matters of culture the international institution UNESCO has the last word. We have to respect the Institutions we create as such. Otherise chaos rules. The pyramids dating back to 5000 BC were given an honorary status by these pseudo-culture-vultures. I do not find any irony more than this. If you permit me to say that this whole exercise is a big 'humbug', a clever ploy to mint some easy money. The organizers must thank only the 'technology' for their 'audacity'. As for 'textbooks', it makes no difference anyway, because children/students do not remember any or all these marvels as they grow as the average memory levels fall year after year.

Ellen said…
Why not?! There's a lot of history in every one of them. That should be good to know. I have no idea if this new list was created by a reliable official source... but let's leave that. TAJ and 7 wonders of the world

Why do you think that Taj should be voted as one of the new 7 wonders of the world?

Because, despite our best efforts, it still stands! Good lucrative business opportunities will come our way... that is if we can manage the fall-outs well.

Abx said…

Tejbir said…
first, i'd like to know more about the credibility of the organization conducting this voting secondly when it comes to world stage, lets give some space to nationalism and look at the world at large. I have not voted because i am not aware of the complete history and significance of others on the list, so am not able to compare besides the fact that i have my doubts on the organizers

Lavina said…
all the news channels say that it is a mere gimmick......this voting and all........... anyways, if for once v keep aside this voting thing that is going on....I guess it would be a proud moment for us if Taj can retain its place in the 7 wonders......for that we need 2 preserve our monuments and maintain them........:) rest shall follow..........

Redivider said…
Do we need a mirror to look at the wrist watch on our hands? Do we really need others' ratings of our 'Tear drop frozen on the cheeks of Time"? I think even the Toursim Ministry lost count of the Heads of States who posed with the Taj? If any one mentions India, the first thing comes to mind of that foreigner is definitely Taj. This is a vote in itself. Even if it does not make to the proposed list, it still maintains its special place both in the hearts of all Indians and the many outsiders who make it a point to have a 'darshan' of it. It is a mark of Love and we will all continue to adore it as such. Jab raat ka aanchal laharaayee aur saara aalam so jaaye, tum, mujhse milne shamma jalaa kar 'taj mahal' mein aa jaana. Wah Taj Mahal.

Why do we need a new list of wonders? Was there a need for such a list? Had anyone gotten upset because they weren't on the list? The real money for this bogus voting comes from merchandise, events, promotional tie-ins, infinitely subdivided and perpetual versions of the New Seven Wonders competition, and more. The official song is available for $0.99 on iTunes! Check www.new7wonders.com/index.php?id=5&L=0 for 'business oppurtunities' this shud make everything clear...

now my physche says if i am gonna be the greatest critic for my 3 rd world country thats gonna do no good to me what is wrong if taj comes into the 7 wonders and india makes more money in tourism and i also loose my 1 re from my mobile phone is all i say

Ellen said…
Taj or whatever wonder there is in other parts of the world should be treasured and preserved. But we don't need a list of sorts to do that. Whether it has a history of good or bad in it is not the point. The thing is it represents the country in a very distinct way with its unique identity & story. In the same way that our Mayon Volcano - known as the perfect cone - is immediately associated with the Philippines, the Taj is uniquely India. Someday I hope to visit the Taj myself! :-)

Vrij said…
Care a damn whether its called so or not. Nothing to celebrate nor cry over watever the outcome. Seriously, its more an advertising gimmick. Each SMS costs 3 bucks, and the organisers get 1 buck out of each sms. A few crore Indians must have messaged and a few thousands must have sent a dozen messages. The promoter is sitting on a gold mine!
