Should cellphones be allowed in schools and colleges?

Cell phones should be allowed, but as Vrij said, should not become an object of distraction. I do not understand the need of cell phones at the school level though.

kids concentrate more on studing rather than downloading new ring tines and txt msging.. for me cell phones in school....strictly no

Sumit said...
Cellphones in schools... no... the next might be an ipod.. just when the teacher gets that much boring.... :D:D if we continue to allow everything in school, schools will no longer be a place to study.... children are safe enough in schools so the cellphones cannot be a necessity and luxuries should not be allowed at school...

Mobile is no longer a communication gadget. It has some captivating power. School children are really addicted 2 txting. The MMS clips which go on rounds is an alarming issue. Students carry porn with them and take snaps of their female collegues. well.. I am myself addicted to it... And i do carry them in my college . But still I dont lyke the idea of allowing mobile phones in Schools or colleges. School is a place to learn.. and such gadgets can be really distracting. And you come to school for studying, not for showing off your latest gizmo

Busybee said...
It should be banned in schools, but colleges its OK, as long as its kept switched off during lectures.

wise donkey said...
No in schools 1.Frequent usage of Cellphones do have an effect on a child's brain 2.It could lead to a pressure on other children to demand a cellphone from their parents (aah now its not just the latest lunchbox but the latest mobile. Yes in colleges But in college cellphones has to be allowed. There can be restrictions, on the mobile type , eg no camera mobile or that the mobile be put in a vibrating mode. If a 18 year old can vote, and decide the fate of the nation, why cant the 18 year old be trusted with a mobile.

DecentmonKey said...
agree with Busybee and Wisedonkey.. no in schools, yes in college..

ofcourse... my magazine works becuase of my cellphone..it even rids my boredom..listen to mp3 on it at times... the camera phone is a must for me atleast... heh... once the principal did put a notice..no cellphones allowed in college... i just clicked a pic of him talking on his cell and posted it on the side of the notice...after that..the notice was changed..cellphones to be switched off during lectures...another pic of prof talking during lectures... princi just gave up then...hahaha moral of the story..cellphones are part of entertainment..they should be allowed in college..dunno about schools..kids that young and cellphones..doubt that is a good idea

I guess cell phones like children should be neither heard nor seen in schools or colleges . it serves as an easy distraction and a mischief maker to add to the already horribly distracted mind of the kid . But the kid should be allowed to carry it in his bag , switched off ..in case he needs his mom or dad ..

saumya said...
agree with vrij - as long its not used during class its fine -

Tina said...

keep kids away from something u raise their curiosity and make them go for it yes, all things can't be weighed equally something's HAVE TO BE out of the reach of kids and society(in form of govt) takes care of it but cell phones are useful gadgets, if used properly and with ettiquetes cells should be allowed, after teaching the kids the manners to use it let our kids be responsible by learning responsibility

Elders in India

Do you feel that with the advent of the nuclear family elders in India are being left on their own to fend for themselves?

anjali said...
yeah datz true to some extent.............but u see it existed before also.........i think u can take care of your parents even if u are on yr job far away........and u can neglect them even if u r living with them............so it all depends upon the individual...........

DecentmonKey said...
Yes, sadly it is on the rise in India, and is a cause of concern..

Vrij said...
Its a very sad thing thats happening.. Its not just the nuclear family phenomenon thats the culprit, but the supposed fast life of today's Gen X thats causing the conflicts. More saddening is the plight of parents/gparents of NRIs. Children Abroad, who dont want to come down to India, and parents cant adjust to the drab boring unfriendly life abroad.. There needs to b a major change in the attitude.. Or..

frenchita said...
Anjali is right , parents can be living with the children and be treated shabbily or they could be away and be finacially taken care of as well as visited often .depends on individual ..clear conscience plays a role ..

sam said...
I agree with Anjali anf Frenchita........that depends on individual........... Childrens should definitely take care of their parents......... Most of us want to do so much for our parents but due to our career/job constraints we cannot do that...........

I guess, this Western concept is also catching on in our country....Heard about a place for old people/the retired in Coimbatore....But we can choose not to ape the West in this aspect & retain that important thread which will help us to preserve our cultural heritage!

surabhi said...
guess its on the rise in India........ but if kids luv their parents enuf ders never gonna be ne problems.... all of us need to remember tht our existence is their giving nd our life is their gift....nd we owe them sumthng in return!!!! cheers!!!

ALL HAIL THE DRAGON KING!!! said...
well... kids in general should take care of their parents...its the least you can do for them..if not more. It would be ideal to spend time with them during their old age...for those who think that is too difficult it is advisable to visit them frequently..after all..they are YOUR parents...you owe it to them.

masoomrocky said...
well... i think Indians are aping the west.... . In Other countries, every 18 year old thinks he is independent and can do nything.. he runs away from his home.... is involved in a Live In relationship.. and goes and earn by doin sum part time jobs.. Such behaviour is rampant in our society as well... They dont listen to their parents.... they jst wanna be Independent . Teenagers r becoming more nd more rude with their parents. They think parents r interfering in everything... They want more freedom.... And they tend to hate their parents and leave them in a state of depression... GOD SAVE INDIA !!! Its high time... ppl plzz stop beheaving lyke foreigners...its is nt tht COOL...

sk said...
i guess our parents are our jeevan data so we should take care n respact our parents coz we r ere now we our parents kosis only tey ad given us a good life to live so now its our duty to take care of them....

Atal Bihari Bajpayee vs. Manmohan Singh

If you compare Atal Bihari Bajpayee with Manmohan Singh, whom do you think the more suitable for PM post and why?

Vrij said...
Difficult question.. ABV is a self made political stalwart.. who can very well handle diplomacy n all that goes with it. But Mannu bhai is the man to 'logically' take India ahead.. of course I mean, if Madam does not hold the veto power..

blogesh said...
agree with vrij. a difficult question there. Abv is grown diplomat with moderate face. with over 40 yrs in politics he graduated to that rank and earned respect from sections of society. as for MM without having that background who was earlier known to businessmen only ; now is compelled to stay within *limits* owing to coalition politics & DEAR MADAM. given a free hand i feel he certainly possess qualities to take india miles ahead.

Prateek said...
A good question. Defenitely ABV was a much better PM than MS. He was not a puppet and moreover he is the one who has been here since independience. He had a vision. He built roads and wished to connect rivers. What has MS or sorry SG done? Reservation. That's it.

Gul said...
Obviously Atal Bihari Bajpaee jee who esle!

frenchita said...
If you force me to compare ( at gunpoint .. he he ) I will say Vajpayeeji .... ,for his achievements over several years , holding varied positions in government , his brilliant yet sentimental mind , his appealing personality , the kind poet in him ,similar philosophy in life as mine .... likeable to the max ...nobody like him ...he was to do more for his country and he was up for it but alas ...

Santosh said...
Its Atalji only. No doubt. He was PM on his own. Kisi ki chhodi huyee kursi nahi mili thi unko. He became PM on his own capabilities.

Manmohan Singh..Ideology and intention are not everything, implementation matters..Vajpayee a great person, but a weak politician..he had to do what the Sangh wanted him to do..not what he wanted to do
