Ban on adult content on TV

Central government banned the telecast of all films, film songs, music videos or their promos which have not been given a ‘U’ certificate for unrestricted public exhibition by the central board of film certification (CBFC). Do you think that the Ban is justified?

Gul said...
Bilkul sahi hai,Kyoki TV mein aanevaale jyaadatar programs yese hote hai ki hum family members ke saath baithakar nahi dekh sakte hai. so ye bilkul sahi nirnay hai.

This ban is actually blasphemous.. ab toh FTV aur Trendz ki waat lagegi.. aur hamari bhi.. I dont know if we will get to see any new releases, as majority of them nowadays get A certificate. Its been speculated that this has been done under pressure from the film industry which has seen major losses and closure of cinema halls owing to the enormous TV penetration.

DecentmonKey said...
No, not justified.. those could be banned only during daytime and prime time.. adult certified programmes should be allowed at other times with an 'A' warning displayed on the screen..

Busybee said...
Yes I support the ban, but what about the crap shown on channels like MTV etc ? I feel that any one who wants to see such movies can get the DVD's and see it at home. The cable TV channel is found to be having porn which the kids manage to see. So at an age when they should be learning better things they are exposed to such stuff. but what about the crap shown on channels like MTV etc ? those music video's are the most vulguar things passed off in the name of music.

The simple principle ......"Individuals Right to Choose"..... Mark content as Adult .... slot it into a time ...... and let the public decide if they want to watch......By scheduling the time slot the government does its part of the deal.... it informs the public that programmes aired are not family oriented..... the goverment should stop there .... it has no right to decide individual tastes

Harshal said...
the ban is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard... if you really wanna ban something... then get rid of those saas bahu serials.

Rajesh (Kachra King) said...
There is increase in rapes and other sex related crimes and Aids as there is very minimal or nil sex education in India .. Human mentality is like a spoilt kid .. when one aske not to see something ppl get curious .. so indirectly Govt. is promoting the A certified films. If not direct black marketers of these films increase. There by increasing black money and non tax payers. This is a loss for Govt. As DM mentioned. They should be banned on the primetime. But such films shd be allowed. That increases a particular hour viewership and which is revenu to the channels and there by to govt. in form of Tax

frenchita said...
I support the ban ...agree with DM that during adult waking hours and children sleeping hours .it is alright to show films of adult content with adequate warnings Like Busy Bee says , MTV is worse for children ,do something about that first

blogesh said...
The ban is justified but something more is required. As voiced by other bloggers, something is needed to be done for M videos, that is utter trash in the name of music. similarly degraded story lines of the soaps ... who will check them ? most ridiculous thing on TV are these soaps, spearheaded by K's. Perhaps a Con-Ax with late timeslot may solve the problem for A certified content. Yet that shd not mean liberty to screen anything and everything.

Hi there. Yes, adult content shouldnt be aired when kids r awake....there should be a high degree of sensitivity and respect inculcated.

About banning channels/programs on TV, I would say Ekta Kapoor's serials are doing MORE HARM to the indian societal fabric than FTV and other such stuff can ever do!!! :P She has gone one step ahead of 'Desperate Housewives' OR 'Sex and the City'!!! And all in the name of bharitiya sanskriti... Bull Shit!

Controversial issues in Textbook

NCERT is planning to include controversial issues like Ayodhya and 1984 Sikh carnage in its political science textbook on politics in India. Do you think that this is a right decision?

IKWP said...
No, not at school level. History has been recorded and if anyone wants to know and do a research on such issues, school level is not the right level. It will pollute the raw minds.

Busybee said...
This should not be included in 'history' and that too at school level. How can events that at just 23 yr old be called history ? & what good is to be achieved by teaching children about such events ? In some time when the BJP comes to power, they would re-wirite the history books.

Aryan said...
No,Na,Nyet,!. what are they going to do next, election campaign in a primary school ?

Ye thik nahi hai..Pata nahi Hamaare desh ke Neta Apni Kurshi Kaayam rakhane ke liye aur kya kya karenge??Desh ko kaha le jana chaahte hai ve hi jaane??Aur hum sabhi ek mook Darshak ki tarah ye sab dekhate rahte hai.Unhone Education ko ek Majak banaa rakha hai

If school education gets politicised, then God help India's future.. this attempt is a cause for concern and should be withdrawn/stopped..

Ashiya said...
hmmmmmmm i guess we are too wela.... rather then making studies interesting and knowledgeable we just want contraversies everywhere.......... * Tell me wat would be a value add for these lessons would provide. Nothing..... So rather than having non value adds in the books lets concentrate more on information which is a value add... wat say?

Rajesh (Kachra King) said...
Children need to know the Urban history too ... the black days should be marked and they should be taught how foolish people in real world are ...

frenchita said...
absolutely not .. how many times will history be written then ..depending on which party is in power ? no way .. go to the library and look in their archives instead ..

Dinesh said...
It is ok to include any part of history even 5 years old if it adds any value in the kid understanding the goodness of her motherland. Even if it's a political issue it's ok to include as long as no bias comes in. And thanks to news and TV explosion the so called kids get to know it anyway. But political bias is bound to come in and Party A will accuse party B and vice versa. Which is not exactly education is it?? So its better if its not there at all, rather than be there and be wrong.

blogesh said...
NO ! It will definitely have political bias.

Anshu said...
I think there is no harm in putting these controversial issues in History Books at school level...as these issues are equally significant to independent India as "Leave India"motion during struggle for the independence...however this has to be noted that it should be un-biased...stating the facts...making aware for the ground realities...and what implications were there after that It would be highly unfair if the generations not come to know about these Controversial issues...but it can be dangerous if this is not presented in the right picture-manner.... After-all History is to be recorded for all important events...which left any mark on the future

Women Judges for rape cases

Government is planning to make it mandatory that only women judges will hear rape cases.Do you think that it will help rape victims?

Busybee said...
YES, it will. It could make for faster justice, and also easier for the victims to depose before the judge.

Vrij said...
It surely is not gonna have too much implication, except that, as BB says, it'll b easier on the victims.. but how much? The main interrogaters the police n most advocates r still male..

Gul said...
Bahut hi sahi pahal hai.Bilkul sahi hona yese hi chahiye kyukee jitna ek Aurat hone ke naate case ki gambhirtaa ko samza aur jaana ja sakta hai vo ek Man Judge ke thoda kathinkar hai. Ek sahraaniy pahal hai.

Pri said...
well i think it wil surely help to some extent..will save ebbarrassment on the victims part...and a woman judge will also hav a better understanding of the case and wil be able to stop the opposition frm harassing the victim(well i belive she should do tht).

Rajesh (Kachra King) said...
It would help to an extent .. I would say that only women prosecuters should be allowed too ... but then they might get a little biased at times ..

frenchita said...
Yes , women judges will help rape victims . They are more understanding whereas Indian men are chauvenistic and tend to blame the victim , although some men are stricter with the rapist .

DecentmonKey said...
Yes, it will help the genuine rape victims..

Ashiya said...
i am not too sure if it would be too helpful..... i think its more about our thinking... and how we treat the victims... its about fair, timely and correct judegement... be the judge be Man or a women..... please give justice to a victim on time......

surabhi said...
maybe it will help....but only to a certain extent!!i really dnt thnk it wud make dat much of a difference!!

Z-girl said...
Women judges may be more sensitive to the issue and make it easier for the victim. But there are prosecutors and others present who might be male. But is there any data that shows that male judges have been ineffective? I doubt it. There are flawed laws that need to be re-written. The whole process of ensuring justice should not be delayed further if there are no women judges available.

Women Reservation Bill

Should there be 33% reservation in parliament for women members?
The idea of Women's Reservation Bill was mooted during former prime minister H D Deve Gowda's tenure. Over 10 years have passed but it has not gathered a consensus among political parties. Why?

Rajesh (Kachra King) said...
:D de do bhai .. sabhi ko reservations dedo .. so that it reaches 100% and there is no term called compitition in Indian Dictionary ... once done to 100% all those who got reservations sit and talk about poverty in India and why is it there at the first place ..

frenchita said...
Don't know the percentage , but I do think women should be encouraged to enter politics in a big way and some handicap given to them to make it easier .Half the population of India is the smart ,capable and intelligent woman ,,how can she be bypassed ? She can bring much to the table . It has not yet passed consensus because the people deciding their fate are men and the few women in power are not doing much about it .... this issue has to be taken seriously .

DecentmonKey said...
What is happening to equality and democracy in India to come up with such proposals ? Why reservation of 33%, women have all the right to contest and win even 100% of parliament if they want to. How are they going to implement this in a democracy ? Have only women contest elections in 33% of constituencies ? or put them directly in parliament ?

lavina said...
Who stopped thm from contesting?? Gud question.......no one stopped the women but in this male-dominated society, some corrective actions are required. But only in the short run. Say for a period of 5-10 years. That is it or may be even less. Lookat this, women constitue around 50% of the population (may b statistically wrong, but the figure is aroun that only), but their representation is policy making, administration is very less. Hence, an affirmative action is required to correct the situation. But this reservation is supposed to empower them and equip them with the opportunity to make a difference. They should try to benefit themselves. But if this reservation issue becomes a permanent feature, then our country is doomed........just the way we have problems pertaining to the reservations of the backward classes, sc, st etc........ if this reservation for women continues for another 50-60 years, it would become reverse discrimination ......like the general category is suffering these days.,....... also, all this reservation n all will help if n only if the attitude of the society in general n the male counter parts in particular towards the women of the society changes....

blogesh said...
i dont know if this "reservation" psyche is going to help us every time. probably few years initially and then scrap; not sure about the percentage too. But then the gender bias where ever existing should be shed out from the society - in every walk of life.

Anshu said...
I think, govt. is planning to alot reservation for all this also....one side they speak about equality other they made reservations....its all vote politics yaar

Vrij said...
Its the males who dont want the women to swell in the parliament. Aakhir, we all know females cant keep things tight in their mouth n will blurt out the secrets of the bloody politicians..

Busybee said...
I dont believe in reservations of any kind. If women are inclined to it then nothing stops them from contesting any of the posts as these are not reserved for women. The problem arises because very few women are interested in poltics and even if there are reservations, there wouldnt be as many capable women reps. Unless we consider the likes of Rabri as a candiate who is basically the rubber stamp for Lalu yadav. what will happen incase of reservations is that all the men who have a criminal record would put up their wives as candidates and once elected, rule by proxy.

Z -girl said...
Reservations for women does not make sense to me. Reservations is not a solution. It weakens society and causes unfairness. I'm sure that if they are interested, they can stand for elections and get voted in power. This effort needs to be put into education and making them more competent.
