The Indian government has decided to lodge its protest against yoga-related patents issued by the US Patents & Trademarks Office. Can Yoga be Patented?

Hershey said…

Pay Structure and Social unrest

PM Manmahan Singh asked big companies to "resist" paying large salaries to their top executives. According to him big disparity in pay structure can lead to social unrest. Is it possible for big companies to follow him?

lostpatrol said…
Dear PM, I politely disagree with you, Good living requires money; lots of it. When one makes lots of it, he lives it up and hires people to do his chores. Just twleve hours ago, I was speaking on phone to a top lawyer in Nicosia, Cyprus. He has five cars, an acre of garden, seven cats and three dogs. Sir, he employs two of your subjects as domestic help to keep his gardens tidy and dogs/cats well taken care of. Oh yes, there are those evil people everywhere who are envious. They can't see good life. They think rich guys living it up, is the reason, they are starving. . So, come Tatas, Birlas, Ambanis, Ruias, Mittals, Jindals: I am available at your service. pay me two crore rupees CTC a year and hire me...I guarantee I will cause any social unrest. I promise I will not drive my car on the footpath or hunt deers. But, about not dating Shilpa Shetty, Mallika Sherawat, (is there any other new sex bomb out there?) I can't make a promise!

No Way ! Barring some corporations those have engaged in money minting or fraudulent activities I believe , rest of the private sector is real propeller of growth and visionary CEO's are contributors to the economy, no matter they look at P & L bottomline of the company. But under corporate governance , are'nt they accountable for what they do ? I fail to see accountability, understanding value for money and time from Hon. MP's , MLA's - with very few exceptions and progressively have earned disproportionate wealth over a period of time...Well, I would definitely endorse an idea of Social responsibility as a legislation under company law..

These are the pitfalls we should have been ready for while rejoicing the "coronation" of an economist as the Prime Miniter of India. It couldn’t have been worse than his suggestion to cap the remuneration of CEOs of India Inc. It surprises me that he had to suggest this being an economist by himself. If he is doing nothing but mouthing the words of some ma’am then he yet again proved himself to be nothing more than a rubber stamp.

GussaWaala said…
It is shocking that as an economist speaking at an organization such as CII that the PM would make a comment that makes no sense. The problem is not with the rich getting richer, the problem is with the poor not having an opportunity and justice. Create a free economy, free of red tape barriers, free of social oppression and stop this nonsense of salary caps and reservations. Use economics not politics.

This should be left to the shareholders and CEOs of private sector.. they should be free from Govt interference into their corporate decisions and policies..

Indian Woman and cooking skills

Do you think that today Indian Woman's earning power is more important than her cooking skills?

Savy said…
I cannot say I agree with this..the very fact that today's woman enjoys eating a wide variety can easily be translated into trying her hand.but cannot say that with much conviction because of their lifestyle..whether they actually do it or not...but woman and cooking are no more synonamous with jobs and men :D

DecentmonKey said…
This cannot be generalised, imo.. it is upto the individual and depends on the interest and choice of the women in question..

nz said…
It depends on individuals and their priorities.some people/women have made their cooking skills their main earning power !

Ruggedboyz said…
now a competition among their two skills could only have been worth a debate if they excelled in both or one of it and they not doing any of the two creating a havoc but some how both interms of wangling or earning men do it better always thus i am ok with what ever they do also i say this with due respect to women. i wasnt tryna hurt their sentiments but whaddya do thats the truth

Tejbir said…
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS i am yet to meet a girl who can cook Gajar ka Halwa as good as my mom

Blogesh said…
I go with DM. Importance or priorities will depend on own choices and sometimes partner choices too !

Lostpatrol said…
:((((((((((((((( (too late..n one asked me this queestion 30 yearago)

Busybee said…
How can the two be compared ? Not all women work... some dont need to work and neither are all women good cooks by default.

Lavina said…
I guess we need 2 get rid of the notion that 'WOMEN OUGHT TO BE GOOD COOKS" !

Thisisme said…
i dont c any co-relation at all between earning power of an individual with their cooking skills..be it a man or woman. i dont agree with the question at all

APJ Kalam and Second Term

Should Kalam be given a second term?
Most of the political parties are opposing his second term. Why?

Vrij said…
Yeah.. Kalam needs another term... a rat is better than the wolves..

Blogesh said…
Yes Dr APJ should be given a second term. He is much respected person and very rare figure who is admired in public life. Count on others ! Abt political parties opposing him ??? Ummmm.. i would say, he talks sense, he dreams sense, he visualises something genuinely. how many political parties you have seen with a "Vision" ?

Anjali said…
APJ kalam sahab needs seond term to lead INDIA towards progress which HE has done successfully in dis term also......

Frenchita said…
no . his term is over .im sure there are as good or better candidates for the position . the other parties are probably feeling the same way :)

Ruggedboyz said…
now if u ask me if kalam be given a second term as the president then i say "no" why coz if the respected n clean imaged politicos oppose him they are people to be given heed to more than the nation also since kalam is been doing a 'world of good to the nation' and only been taking his mission of a beetre india to every nook and cranny , cutting him off will prove we are true indians and and also he errrrrr he he is yet to come up on a decision on the terror man "afzal" hence he be sacked and no ideas of his carrying on be entertained

DecentmonKey said…
1. Yes, but unfortunately seems unlikely.. 2. They want a politician as president.. again unfortunate..

GussaWaala said…
Why would you want to give someone with a brain a second chance? What a dumb question.. We have the worlds oldest history and culture. Lets stick to it and get a corrupt bozo for the post. ;-)

Gul said…

Global Warming and Developed Countries

The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) firmly asked all countries to cut their emissions drastically if the world is to be saved from rising temperatures and sea levels.Do you think that all countries will act positively?Should developed countries contribute more in this regard?

GussaWaala said…
No one will cut except maybe for the europeans. Sure the west (USA) should take the lead but they won't. Doing so would imply that they are admitting guilt. Now how could they ever do that?

Abhilasha said…
we have to be more aware about all the circumstances which make everyone to be careful about global worming. there is only 8 years.. where is future of next generations..??

Abx said…
gobal warming is mostly due to developed countries specially USA, so they should contribute and promote environment protection prograammes.

Lostpatrol said…
Can't WAIT! 8 long years to go!! I am freezing in the desert summer heat!

Frenchita said…
No .. china has already defied this request . ..saying that it needs its coal industry to supply energy .it has planned thousands of new such plants and will be number 1 polluter in the world in next decade . nobody can stop it .. India is keeping mum but will follow the same path ..Europe will be the first to comply followed by USA ...after Bush leaves . Yes .. they have the technology and the finance to do so .Also new inventions and CO2 capture techniques will actually create a new industry and there is more money to be made as G.E. has shown . If Al Gore becomes next president and he still might enter the race ..then America will be the leader in this regard .

DecentmonKey said…
The UN has been warning this since past several years.. if all countries acted positively, the situation would not have required issuing such an alarming SOS for action.. 'Should developed countries contribute more in this regard?' Undoubtedly YES.. they reaped the benefits and developed themselves without caring for the environment.. now they cannot expect developing or poor countries to pay for their excesses..

Wise donkey said…
Instead of thinking and writing who should do what, lets concentrate on what Each one of us can do. We cant control the leaders of the world, but we can certainly change our actions. Why should we expect Developed nations to change

Chakoli said…
ofcourse countries should work and take positive actions in this regard...!!!thr is no other option...!!!!Its coz of nature we are here...and it has been proved so many times , whenever we try to go against it it shows its terror...!!!

Blogesh said…
contributors to global warming has to take up the responsibility proactively . but that should also be joined by all other nations to make a collective effort instead of indulging in blame games

Ellen said…
This is one big global community. What would affect one nation or country may or can affect another. So then why not we just pool our heads together and solve this pronto! The clock is ticking.

Savy said…
