Leader and Actor

Leaders are playing the roles of Actors, while Actors are playing the roles of Leaders today. Is it right?

Vrij said...
Does not matter .. Ultimately, both the classes of population have just one function in the rigmarole of life : ENTERTAIN PEOPLE :-))

Leaders are doing a gr8 job acting... hope someday the vise versa happens.......

frenchita said...
No .Not at all . The politician may play a role in his field for a while but his first duty is to serve the janata . The actor may be play politics in his bid for good roles but his first duty is to entertain the janata .

Till there is a role reversal, we, the ppl of INDIA will have tough time.

Actor-Politician or Politician-Actor, whatever way it's called, it really doesn't matter. What the smart one would do is to take what's best in each of the roles taken on and to use these together in the service of the people. The politician's savvy in creating good policies and programs benefiting his constitiuncy -- can be helped by an actor's innate charisma which can draw attention to his good governance or programs and push it forward successfully. The bottomline is --- SERVICE TO AND FOR THE PEOPLE.

Olympics and India

What are the reasons for Poor performance of India in Olympics?

frenchita said...
possible reasons could be 1. Indians are made to excel in studies all through school ,sports take a backseat 2.Schools dont encourage sports to the extent that they can pick choice students out and groom them 3. No facility for such students to seek encouragement from government . 4. fear to lose place in college ,no such infrastructure in place to go back to college should one drop out to practice the sport 5. no funds ? 6. lack of good coaches in India This whole thing has to be studied seriously . now that Indians have made strides in academics throughout the world , we should start concentrating on sports and the olympics . summer and winter . It will take years ,but ...

decentmonkey said...
All the reasons mentioned by Frenchita are very valid.. There is no lack of good athletes as is evidenced by our commendable performances in Asian and Commonwealth games.. We are lacking very badly in top class infrastructure, training facilities and good coaches.. For this, the sports governing bodies have to be professionally managed to fix the shortfalls with firm determination to take the Indian sports a notch higher to compete and succeed at Olympics level, which is the best of the best.. Besides just aiming for Olympic medals, development and encouragement of sports from childhood creates a happy, healthy and competitive society.. which our new generation deserves..

All other reasons set aside I think corruption also plays a role. I recall being on a KLM flight from Amsterdam to New Delhi. A team of Indian boxers, wearing their India logo sweatshirts etc, was on the flight. Each one had tons of electronics equipment and was boasting of the profit for which they would sell it. They all were fighting over the free alcohol on the flight. When the flight staff refused to serve them anymore because they were completely drunk, they started to fight and shout.Honestly, I was embarassed. They won no medals. One of them told me he was on the team because he knew someone (had connections as he put it) and how he got this great deal to fly around Europe. Now this was almost 15 years ago and things may have changed. But watching this team, I know we are never winning an Olympic gold.I would like to believe things have changed :-)

Violence in Film and TV

Does the violence in films and on TV contribute to violence in society?

saaya said...
hi I dont think so. Media affects the society. but the things like romance , fashion , dreams are directly absobed into the soceity. but i guess voilance does not affect that much. ut kids tend to get affected by the wars/guns on cartoon network i guess not mature adults

tejbir said...
as for the question dont u think what all is depicted in films is a reflection of all that is happening in the society Did we have such films during WW-I and WW-II to give the world ideas on voilence? It is the hunger for senseless power in man that gives rise to violence films or no films

amuiscute said...
Its just the reciprocal of what the question is!

savy said...
not at all...gone are the days that real life incidents are supported by reel life...maybe a small fraction of rural teens to the extent of copying the looks and all...otherwise..we are intoa diff time....lot of awareness in today's time..gone is the era of make belief and imaginations...real life has a lot of drama on the contrary

sumit said...
Obviously not.. You never see that hilarious voilence in real life where the hero has killed each and every associate of the villain maybe with a dozen bullets in his own body but still lives to show a smiling face at The End. The Character might have some impact on some blind followers but sheer voilence definitely not.

Interesting question: I respond with another question...By extension, is reading the mahabharat the cause of violence as well? (Mahabharat is pretty graphic in the description of violence - beheading, dismembering, tearing someone's chest apart to drink his blood... So on, so forth) Ditto for Ramayana, and other religious texts (even the Bible). Violence is a part of human nature. Always been there, always will be. TV or no TV. However, TV does influence children. So, parents should be careful about what they let their kids watch.

media definately plays a big role in may society...i guess in movies n stuff the ideas they show contributes to the already exsisting criminal mind!

vrij said...
If its adults who are viewing, then the answer is NO. But the kids do get influenced to some extent. In my opinion, the Cartoon channels are the worst offenders. They show blood and gore, revenge, violence, etc all in the garb or animated cartoons. For kids, these animated figures maybe no different from 'live' charecters and they replicate the same on their siblings or schoolmates

frenchita said...
Sometimes . There have been instances of real life shootings and murders following the same shown in a movie or television show or a book . twisted plots , how bombs are made , kidnappings etc. There are always kooks out there who mimic and fantasize on the incidences they see or read about . Hey Shravan , Good topics you are bringing up. I am enjoying this . thanks

Yoga in School

Should Yoga be made a compulsory subject in schools?

librangirl said...
Not a bad idea as i c a reason also. Kids nowadays spend their time either in front of the TV or surfing net. I hardly see any kid playin' out in the garden. So the physical activity is almost nil. School is the place where they spend almost half of the day. So the schoold can think about this option apart from games n' other extra-curicular activities. cheers

DecentmonKey said...
Sounds interesting.. but I doubt it can ever be made as compulsory.. it can only be recommended to the Schools to provide this alternative too..

Indian F1 fan said...
good idea, only problem is the secularist view...

Busybee said...
It is being taught in all CBSE schools. Atleast that was the case when I was in school. It would be nice to teach our genNext Yoga and sports, and not just make them book worms. Making it compulsory will make no big difference.....as this would be an extra curricular activity and not taken seriously.

frenchita said...
A very good question . Yes , it should be taught . And taught seriously as a subject . Patanjali's asthanga yoga . which not only includes the asanas for physical fitness but the do's and don'ts of life , the breathing exercises and the meditation . It has nothing to do with any religion , only to do with a human being's spiritual progress towards God . And it is best taught to a child when he/she is impressionable enough to imbibe it .

tejbir said...
a very good stepwill only work for the upliftmentof indians physically mentally spiritually

Shamit said...
Excellent idea, it would help us imbibe these techniques for physical and mental well-being; and would become an integral part of the lifestyle hence helping them to counter stress and helth issues later on in life.

If we all learn yoga from childhood that would help us thru life ...However children need to be careful while stretching themselves and the practices need to be done under lot of care / supervisionsI'm NOT SURE if our country has schools that can provide that level of supervisionswhile many private schools will (and some might look at this as an alternate income), most government schools, IMHO, are in capable of providing that level of supervision and yoga training
