Budget 2008-09

Do you think that Budget 2008-09 is good for country?

Abx says:ya budegt is good one with election oriented provisions as per mandate of all political parties

Vamsi says: yup ... FM chidambaram has given a very good budget ... this budget is a populist budget ... planned keeping an eye on the possible elections ... the raising of the minimum amount not liable for tax and change of the tax rates of individuals is a welcome measure ... senior citizen would be very happy to learn that they will have more money to go for more "joy rides" like in that VISA advertisement ... say to singapore ... and Working Women would have more money to fill their purses and splurge on women accessories like lipsticks !

vIRTUALsCORPIO says: The budget would come undone if inflation which has been under control, remains so.

Kaua says: Country ??? that comes secondary this budget ...it is definitely good for UPA as it is prepared taken into consideration elections next yr..so thumbs up for Congress... Mr FM is a smart man !..but i lykd the budget coz it benefited individuals to a considerable extent considering increase in salb rates...

Niceguy251 says: All said and done, elections or whatever compulsions, it is welcome budget to keep everyone happy except maybe big business houses.

Tejbir says: why do we force ourselves in classifying things and people into good and bad? it was a job to be done and person whom the nation entrusted it with did his best lets end it with this.

Anjali says: its really a good budget.......c inflation can't be controlled only by the ministry..........its demand and supply crisis and so many other things influence inflation!!

Protest of Jodha Akbar

Is the protest of Jodha Akbar across the country right?
Lp53 says: People have the right to express their opinion. If protest is the form it takes, when that is doen within the civic norms of our democratic polity, it is right.

Vamsi says: actually i find it very hard to really know who married whom in that period of Akbar. Was Jodhaa Bai married to Akbar, or was she Akbar's daughter-in-law, that is married to Jehangir ... its simply because i was not born at that age ! truely making this film wherein it is shown that Jodhaa Bai was married to Akbar and the protests by Rajput community that Jodhaa Bai was married to Jehangir ... really add's to my confusion ... i would like to view the movie the way i have written in my blog : vamsi-one.blogspot.com/2008/02/jodha-akbar-movie-review.html one thing is for sure ... Akbar is Great

Niceguy251 says: It has become a fashion to protest for anything and everything just for publicity or political gains. I remember my school days when we were taught that Jodha Bai was wife of Akbar and she supported him for war against Salim who was named Jehangir on ascending the throne when he waged battle on being denied permission to marry Anarkali. That is what was shown in Mughal - e - Azam also. I wonder where were these custodians of history at that time. If I am not mistaken Man Singh was Akbar's brother - in - law. One has to see any movie for it's presentation.

Tejbir says: protest is OK but tod-phod!!!? - naah!!!!

Sarika says:protest hit karne ke liye hota hai

Busybee says: the protests over JA was meaningless, when there are differing views about who married whom. And how does it matter, when a marriage did take place between a Rajput princess and a mughal ruler ?

vIRTUALsCORPIO says: Its just an indication of unemployment in India

Copyright over appellations -Indian

Do you think that the government should have absolute copyright over appellations "Indian" and "National" when it comes to using them for educational institutions?

Lostpatrol says: No, Indian School o fBusiness, in Hyderabad, among the top-notch schools, isn't governmenta institution. In fact, government should get out of education. It can set up and administer an autonomous Regulatory Authority throuh its appointees. No schools will remain in rural areas and backward classes will not be educated, you say? Government schools in the villages at primary level are root cause for our falling behind.

Virtualscorpio says: No, Government should stick to governing which it is meant to & get out of every other sector.

Ruggedboyz says: i think an institute earns its own glory or shame by the kinda of discipline it follows having said that it is extremely misleading for common people who may tricked by money making institutes and so i did want not the goverment but a government funded body that makes sure every year that only top notch institues have national or indian before their names

Tejbir says: NO government is by the people, for the people of the people and what is India - the people of India so who owns the appellations? The people themselves!

Lionking says: i think government is taking a good step by restricting the usage of the words "indian" and "national" ... as these two words, i think are national property ... some days back i had written an article protesting the usage of "India" in the name "Force India Racing Team" as in the below link : o3.indiatimes.com/lionking/archive/2008/01/13/4863375.aspx while i am not sure whether this decision to ristrict the usage of the words "India" and "National" is because of my blogpost above ( i guess i am trying to get over ambitious by taking the credit for this decision of the government!), i welcome this decision ...

GussaWaala says: Last time iI checked patriotism, nationalism, and India belonged to Indians and not to some IAS babu seeking a new way to collect bribes.

Niceguy251says: Use of word Indian or National is birthright of all of us but it is really perturbing to see this being misused. We could have a regulatory body who sets some preconditions for use of words for any product lest it is misleading or degrading for someone. We have Air Marshal Hawai Chappals while this is a very high rank in Air Force, Admiral Seats for western toilet while this is rank of Naval Chief. Tomorrow someone may come out with Prime Minister Langot or President Vest.

Age of Consent

The Law Commission on Wednesday recommended that the age of consent for sex should be raised from 15 years to 16 years for girls, regardless of marriage.
Do you think that 16 yrs age is appropriate ?

Virtualscorpio says:Shud be 18 i suppose, but again I m not a girl , so really dont know how it feels @ 15,16, 0r 18 ;-))
Lp53 says: No, if you are the father of the girl. Yes, if you are the boy-friend/paramour/man

Lionking says: i would go with VS in this case ... i think 18 should be the age for both Marriage and Consent for Sex ... but i dont agree with the proposal of the Law Commission to reduce the Marriage age of Men from 21 to 18 ... i think for men 21 is the right age to think about marriage ...

Niceguy251 says: You must have read survey reports of many an agencies or newspapers regarding what is going on at young age these days. That I can vouch for is just a tip of the iceberg. I have had occassion to talk to some of the youngsters informally and what I learnt has made me not to be surprised or shocked at anything now. But I still maintain that age for consent of a girl be 16 and for marriage for girl 18 and boy 21. Let them at least complete their education before taking on responsibilities of family life.

Busybee says: no. It shud be 18min for sex and even consent for sex.

2010 Commonwealth Games and Beggars

Aiming to tackle the problem of beggary in the capital ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the city government is embarking on an ambitious plan of introducing biometric identification system for all people caught begging on the streets. This, officials say, will be a foolproof process for identifying habitual beggars who can then be rehabilitated. Do you think that Govt. will succeed in its efforts?

Lionking says: this is one of the most preposterous idea i have ever heard ... maybe if government wants to spend money ... then they can give jobs ... or to people who are disabled ... they can take the help of some NGOs and make sure that their life is look after ... giving biometrical identification if materializes ... will become a new form of caste system ... wherein beggars will be labled as "beggars" and they will have to bear more more social trauma ... i should not say this ... but this decision sounds just hilarious !

Lp53 says: We must accept that destitues will always be there with us and some of them will end up into begging, pimping, prostituting, stealing, cheating and so forth. We must not lay the responsibility of their daily upkeep on the government. Let us free the government of the guilt whihc it is trying to expiate by such novel ideas. If biometry shoudl be applied, it shoudl be first applied to identify people on the voters' list.

Ruggedboyz says: i hope the government does something concrete to uproot poverty from our nation and i being the ultimate optimistic i did assume that this step helps actually trap the poverty epidemic that has caught our nation and be it biometrical identification or geographical deciphermization lets hope this jargonic technic are of help and we actually aint making another evasion on what we are doing about the poverty of our nation

Ellen says: the poor will always be with us and for a reason I am sure. Maybe it's there to test kind hearts and gentle souls among us. To shake us off being smug and content bout ourselves -- we who are more fortunate than them. God wants us to care for each other, to share our gifts with others in a reasonable and fair manner. Whether it be in government or private, whatever we can do for the least of our brothers is doing so unto the Lord. This giving may not necessarily be in such grand manner but it could be even in the smallest way we can give from the blessings we have received from God. I believe that our God-given blessings and talents are not wholly ours to keep but are also meant to be shared and to serve others with.

Niceguy251 says: There will always be destitutes who need care and help but it is only when it becomes a trade it is to be eradicated. While commenting on one of the blogs I had given example of beggers at traffic lights and how they behaved when I offered job or help instead of money which was true indicator of it being a business managed by mafia. How do you think physically handicapped persons reach steps of underground / overhead pedestrian passages? They are positioned there by someone who gets share out of their alms. It is not only help of NGOs but from religious & community leaders also which should be taken by Govt. Have you ever seen a SIKH person begging? It is because community takes care of their destitutes by offering them shelter / food in Gurudwaras. I admire them for this apart from other good virtues.

Virtualscorpio says:I wud go wid Lionking. We indians tend to address ourselves to the effect, rarely the cause.
