Domestic violence should always be dealt with ...in private... within family or in public ...in the courts Womens should be counselled to speak up and report it to the authorities . I am aware doing so will weaken their position in the household ..will hurt them and their children more ...but unless the perpretrator is reprimanded ..this evil in our society will continue to haunt us . There are enough organizations nowadays that will take up their case and protect them ..

This is a serious social problem. Most of the cases it goes unreported. Victims prefer to suffer in silence because reporting leads to certain end of relation. education and economic independence can only be the solution to this social sickness. This will give women the courage to fight back.

Any violence is a crime and the perpetrator should not go scotfree.. the victims should be strong enough to report any abuse, which is not done in many domestic cases due to factors like societal pressure, children, financial dependence etc..

I go with a larger definition of violence, stretching it from its conventional, of physical abuse, to include cruelty in all its forms. Further, wives alone are not its victims, husbands, children and parents and siblings are too...Domestic viloence seldom remains private in India, as living quarters are cramped and even walls have ears, neighbors especially. Hence there is no choice there. What happens after its public differs, depending on 'mind your own business' attitude of neighbors, and 'limit of forebearance' by anyone of teh victims. Fight, flight, do or die etc.

the better question is...should domestic violence even exist? Ok, I can understand every family fights sometimes, but things should not get so out of hand that we need to ask questions like the ones mentioned here. Later Hershey Desai added…
Since domestic violence is very much a problem in this world, I feel it should be dealth with privately, that is, unless things get far too out of hand, meaning, if you significant other is abusing you to the point of physical harm or emotionally driving you to the point of suicide, then yes things need to be spilled into the public. For, I may not know of other countries, but we indians are a fierce lot and will not tolerate such insolent behaviour at all. If the person is hurting you, tell it to the public, they will hound him to no end... and who knows, with the guilt and shame and public humilation the person may improve and not do such a deed in the future. But don't fight people don't fight... wanna let some steam off, do what I do... take a nice stuffed punching bag and GO WILD!!! good anger management. Ofcourse you can also just leave a nice amount of superglue on your boss' chair...heheh
