Ban on Processions

Processions and Protest marches taken out by political parties, trade unions and
other social and religious organisations create much inconvenience to road-users.
Should there be complete ban on such type of Processions?

rather than banning them why not start imposing some kind of fees? this way, the state will earn some revenue and people who face probs could be taxed a little less and then it will also bring out how many people "really" support the cause for which they take out processions will they pay to support the cause?

No ..cannot ban these things ..not in a democratic country like ours . govt should insist on some rules laid down ..processionists should pay for police security and all other charges incurred .. any deviations ..any rough stuff ..and police have the final say in closing down the processions ..

People will take out processions to protest even this proposed ban on processions.. in a democracy, people have a right to protest against any injustices.. better solution will be to restrict them in only certain areas so as to cause minimal disruption to general public..

I think that there should be a dedicated place for such possessions where such organizations can protest as per thier wish without disrupting the normal life, and the concerned authority or people should be answerable to these protests at the end of the day... so that the protest can lead to some sort of result.

complete ban is wrong. but since they cause probs, let them be regulated. only certain zones, and only during certain hours for religious, political, and trade union ones. for issues relating to environment and health and people, if they are relevant to that date, exceptions should be made. for eg : for ngos on water probs on the un nominated date. those who want to protest otherwise should simply wear badges, or tshirts which speak about the issue, in their day to day life.

Right to protest is the fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution.People have no other suitable platform to register their protest to catch attention of people from the government. We are proud to be the citizen of this great democrcy. There is no question of banning them. But we can workout a plan to cause minimum inconvenience to the general public. cheers, -us

well I wouldn't say BAN...but it would be nice if they didn't make such a big show about it, specially during heavy traffic.

procession is difinetely a source of in convinence and so a place be alloted for all the politically active and socially sentive people to show their emotions and it be ensured that they not be allowed to breach out of that alloted region is all i think on this tc shrawan bye

I suggest the road-users should set up shop in the middle of the road and start business while luring the the processionits into shopping!

Hi Shrawan,
