Concerned over increasing number of suicides among students, the NCERT, a central apex body, has suggested to schools across the country to replace the word fail with unsatisfactory or repeat.Do you think that this is a right move?

right move ??? How can someone be so stupid to even suggest that changing the word would help cutting down the suicides among students ?? Even my 6 yr old would know that its one and the same thing.

i think so..fail means you are no good and repeat def means you are good fr another chance..fail has serious repurcussions tagged to it..the wprd repeat gives one hope...a try again at leeast..I fam all for it.

Reminded me of our great PM. Ms I. Gandhi. Got every body over the poverty line by abolishing III class in the railways. No Indian travelled III class, only I or II. Sad, the main issues never get addresed.

yes it is .. well ..the word "repeat " sounds worse the word .. "unsatisfatory " may be suggested and implemented .. like vs says ..the real issues are not being addressed probably out of range for NCERT huh ? :)

ironical - so at last the teachers accept that they don't teach common sense to their students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (aren't they being naive to believe that students won't be able to make out the difference?)

yes. atleast one doesnt think of oneself as a failure. but the problem is not just what one thinks, but the expectations of parents. unless parents behave differently, we cant expect a big difference in the suicide rate. parents and teachers must encourage and not discourage children who dont score the required marks..
