Renaming a City

Bangalore to Bengaluru

Does it make any sense to change the name of a City?

how progressive are we not , we are people who can put millions to change a humble name we care not for the tax paying public we are indiffrent to the ones that already got use to it , also to the cosmopolitian that has evovled their we only want to change name s and prove our superiority but we are only wasting money in the name of this silly rechristening

guess the brand "BANGALORE" will remain even if it becomes "Bengaluru" !! guess instead of debating over name ; govt should concentrate on other important matters in the city. Our leaders are always very wise to redireect peoples attention to some unrelated topics to cover up urgent and important topics. If "Bengaluru" comes up along with better roads and less traffic jams; less cost of living as a package it makes a lot sense. otherwise it it "Bangalore " or "Bengaluru" it does not make difference for a normal bangalorean like me !!

Yes. All our cities should be named the Indian way ...no reminders of British or Muslim rule .. doing so is not taking away from any other priorities ..like feeding the poor .! but it does instill a sense of patriotism in us ..

Re naming the city sometimes invite bring irritation to people. When bombay was renamed as mumbai there were a lot of agitation.Even I felt bit unusual. But Bengaluru, I Like it. Because it is Namma Bengaluru. It is a good beginninig for karnataka.

Rechristening in bits and parts, cities then airports etc.. with neither national consensus nor referandum shows the regionalism and whims and fancies of state governments or their leaders.. If renaming is desired by the people, it should start with renaming India as Bharat first..

Where public sentiments are involved, public should be allowed to do what they want.

change of name can be out of two reasons political or actual reason supported by the populace while earlier ends at being a gimmick and is never accepted vernacularly, the later is good as it answers the beliefs of the people and their history, culture and should be respected

It is a waste of time, effort. Instead of changing the name they must have changed the Infra structure of Bangalore. Anyway we are going to call as Bnagalore instead of Bengaluru.
