Death Penalty and Society

Is the Death Penalty good for society ?

Harshal says: no..absolutely not...all those rapists and thieves do not deserve a death penalty...too quick and easy for them..no, they deserve a slow painful death..life sentence... but then..seeing as our police is mostly corrupt..and here there are greater risks of these criminals getting out faster than going in to prison..death penalty should be approved.

Savy says: death serves no purpose at all except anguish for the people left behind.

Busybee says: Yes, death penalty is too good for some type of criminals....for instance rapists. Rapists should be castrated. Murderers / killers of any kind should get death penalty, this is so because they themselves did not care for the life of others.....but this too easy a punishment. Gets over too fast.

DecentmonKey says: Absolutely yes.. besides punishing the convicted, it can also be a huge deterrant for would be criminals..

Frenchita says: yes it is good for society .. 1. too much money spent by govt. keeping the criminals alive 2. defence lawyers are paid with our taxes .at least in the US .. they tend to postpone the execution date by appeal after appeal date making $ 1to 2 per murder to make maximum money . 3. deterrent to future crimes 4.collective revenge factor of society is appeased 5.I knew of a female judge in Michigan who was considered ridiculously lenient . never giving death penalty or life sentence until her own daughter was raped and murdered . following that she advocated the death penalty on every murder case .
On the one hand , consider the agony of the victim's family on the other hand , consider the comfortable life of the convicted felon with nice meals , exercising tv room , nice bed and certain rights . Where is the sense of fairness and justice ?

Tejbir says: Can't say But tell me, will u hang a guy who murdered a man for stealing his wrist watch will u still hang him if he was stealing to feed his hungry child now.....if the two were different men? both committed murders both made a woman widow both made a kid orphan who should be hanged and who should not be. so, gravity of crime in social subjectivity has to be kept above the law book when deciding to hang or not

Anjali says: in some cases it must be like afzal case......dhananjoy case etc............as it ll be lesson for d criminals.....

Ashiya says: well i think if the crime is proven..... crimes like Priyadarshini Matoo, Dhananjay, the case of the christian missionary who was burnt alive with his kids......... yes i think the only punishment of these crimes is Death...... But please also need to emphasize on a timely judiacial closure to the case.

Rajesh (Kachra King) says: Very much nessesary in current Society .. esp with the population in India the violaters of law should be punished strictly. Else controling crime would become difficult.

Remakes and Copyright permission

Do you think that producer of a remake is legally bound to get a copyright permission?

frenchita said…
Yes ,absolutely .. I am always surprised how it is happening ,,whether in movies ...the latest being Don .. under same name .. a blatant lift ..or as similar stories ... a Hollywood lift .. or in songs as remixes . Permission should be taken and fees paid if required . I am surprised how Hollywood has not taken a sterner action against our producers yet .. .nothing beats an original idea , an original thought , an original concept

ruggedboyz said…
for me movies made by producers is like their babies and when so one asked me that will any mother give away her baby to some one else and is it legal i have this thing to tell you if the mother belives that the child of hers will be in save hands and nurtured with best care then she would defintely give it (offcourse their she might not be financially stable) but here the producer willingly parts with the rights of his movie way after its fizzled out of the theatres long ago and so it is only lie making mollah by seeling the dead horse and so i see no wrong in it see you byee

DecentmonKey said…
Ethically, yes.. but legally it would be difficult to enforce if the remake is not exactly same.. As for using the same title, i think they have to get permission from the original owner as titles are registered property, imo..

savy said…
But I seriously think they already do have the copyright...I mean hindi to hindi...but from other languages..it is so brazen theft! yes..it should be mandatory.

anjali said…
OF course!!!!!!!!! its mandatory......!!!!!! hw r u doing???? tc

Rajesh (Kachra King) said…
Well this is nothing new in indian movies ... sab chalta hai ... but then I am sure one cannot fill in others shoe well ... so is the case with this movie .. whether copyrights or no ... the movie aint going to work.

harshal said…
remakes never work...NEVER...its just not possible... it would be like someone trying to write a story about wizards and witches going to wizard school..after harry botter, this book would never gain popularity.. be original naa. however with respect to your question..i would have to yes of course, its obvious.

rups said…
hmmm.. remakes??? i think they shd be given sm certification..just like 'A'.. so that ppl who have already seen the old flick dont see the new one!! then ther will be no comparisons!! quite unpractical!! hai naa!! but u cant do anything..who doesnt want to make money!! most of the ppl saw don just bcos it was 'DON'.. wats the harm!! i just think what guilt feeling would AB having not being born this time!! he charged in lakhs n shahrukh to copy chrged in crores!! he he... :)

Good and Bad News

Do you think that Bad News sells better than Good News ?

______________________________________

frenchita said...
Yes bad news sells better than good news . Why ? because it stirs up our emotions our passions .. a murder here a rape there ..we are thankful it didnt happen to us ..we are safe ..a divorce here a recent widow there ..we start the blame game ..we commiserate .we give unsolicited advice ..gossip takes over .. some TP .." holier than thou " attitude comes into play .. Good news like some one just got a promotion . their boy passed with 1st class ..stirs up jealousy , envy hate ..who wants to hear that ? Some blind person being helped across the street or street dogs getting fed ..whats the big deal ? why wasnt I doing it ? does not spice up my life surely ...so not going to give it importance ...deny and ignore it .

Busybee said...
Yes, bad news sells. Shrawan has TOI asked u to do this survey ?? :D :D...

Lavina said...
Yes bad news sells better.....rather put it this way...bad news is good news for a journalist. There is much to debate about, question on and criticise and it stays longer........... see, its human........if I tell you I have won a competition......it would have a lesser shelf life in your memory .......but if tell you that I made a bl....under and has disasterous consequences you are bound to discuss it with 10 more people... being in the media field I can very well understand this

tejbir said...
news is news - good/bad is less relevant than hot or not! many a times good news can be hotter than bad eg. India lifting the champions trophy - good and hot news indeed! It will definitely sell better depending which paper/channel covers it more innovatively (hint:: please replace mandira bedi with minnisha lamba and the channel has me glued for the pre/break/post match analysis and i also promise to watch the commercials - LOL)

gul said...
ab ye to tay hai ki aajkal bad hi jyaada news hi sell hoti hai good to kam hi hogi na
Sumit said...
Unfortunately yes... and this is the reason why all the news channels are reporting all the bad news everyday, even if it requires 'creating' bad news. Indian media is not going in the right direction, they just want to capitalize on the less mature and highly emotional audience to improve thier TRP ratings. Keep smiling mate :)

DecentmonKey said...
Not necessary, imo.. any news which strikes a chord with the people would sell.. unfortunately we have more bad situations in the world and are thus reflected in newspaper reports..

ruggedboyz said...
if only every comment that came ur way was to be published then i shall give u a larger perspective of mine nevertheless i believe that it is just that a bad news can be easily sensationalized and then questions be posed that are we right is this right what arewe up to kinda and then this makes people take note more then say a benign happy news can because then we all are just to happy to introspect things and find whats right and whats wrong hope this is the view for the poll

Web Surfing in Public places

Do you think that Web Surfing in Public places is safe?

Rajesh (KachraKing) said…
well every things has pros and cons .. I am sure ppl used internet for browsing sex sites .. but then look at the number of ppl who are using it for constructive reasons ... i believe it should be allowed more in public ... ppl will find better use of it... revolution takes time .. initially its looked upon low....

frenchita said…
Yes it is safe ..why do you ask that ? from what point of view ? Oh so kids shouldnt get a hold of it ..and no supervision ..but the good points of the web outweigh the few undesirable ...so yes they are safe and should be made available ..people depend on it ..

Vrij said…
Oh yeah, it is.. safe for the youngsters who want to browse thru censored sites.. which they cant do at home ;) Seriously.. today there is a rule that no cyber cafe can have closed cabins. All monitors should be visible from outside the cubicles. But if you are talking of other security stuff... never download material to ur CD or floppy in a cyber cafe.. they hardly ever have anti-virus sw loaded.

not)konfused said…
as a matter of fact, 90 % of these round the corner cyber cafe has trojans n sniffers installed all over them , that will easily compromise ur privacy. These shop owners know nothing bout computers, let alone expecting them to make them secure on the net. but then what makes u think net at ur home is safe !!!!?? u hve to make it safe. and hope that ur ISP has taken all precautions to do so too (which again is not true in many cases) (

Busybee said…
Its definitely safe for doing TP but not for any work related use.

DecentmonKey said…
It is safer now than compared to, say last year.. it will get only better..

Tejbir said…
i think surfing in public could be dangerous if one uses details like credit card numbers, telephone numbers, e-mail passwords and other such #s in a cyber cafe as it could turn out that such details are retrievable but with prices of PCs having fallen to their lowest and being affordable by many public surfing itself may soon get extinct

Priya said…
Its ok to check public sites in public places, but not personal things like email, work website or personal banking website.

Yes it is safe !!!!
