Vande Mataram Issue

Should the singing of Vande Mataram be made mandatory in all schools?

not so much mandatory as much as necessary... come on...it is like...a patriotric song...of course it is necessary...along with the "saare jahan se accha" and the most obvious... the indian national anthem...jana gana mana... besides its fun...kinda stimulates the patriot in you...

Vande Matram was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1876 and this song was instrumental in getting the much desired fire of freedom burn amongst the folks. Though the critics say it is as ode to Durga, still I would say this ode to Durga is far better than the ode to the britishers in the present national anthem : jans- gana-mana....... Moreover the 1st two stanzas just speak about the glory to the mother , which could be glory to the mother India! Whats wrong in this?

To be honest I see nothing wrong with a national song in praise of the motherland, & I fail to understand the problem muslims have on this issue. How does singing the praise of the motherland clash with your faith in God ? Arent these two eitirely different issues ? Why cant they show some pride in the nation for a change ? but then I also do not belive that singing a song makes one patriotic in anyway, or not singing it makes one a traitor.

“Jana Gana Mana…. “ is our national anthem. We must respect our national anthem, get up and maintain proper decorum when it is being played. If a flag has been unfurled and if our head is covered, we may salute the flag too. But there is no such rule, regulation or custom for national song “Vande Mataram”. Any effort to give it a historical sanctity does not make it our national anthem and does not deserve the same treatment.

theres nothing wrong with rendering it..as it fills us with an unequal pride...people keep confusing religion with patriotism..at the same time,I wd hate to shove anything down people's throats..it is the feeling within..u cant have a patriotic feeling mired in controversies..the very essence is defeated.

I not understand why such Patriotic song which can never loose its significance been viewed from Communal angle...the song simply means that we are all one inspite of our respective diversities and that we all have one desire that promotes peace and patriotism...Only in a Communist form of Govt. or by thumbrule or by tyranny can one impose something for a Country. We need to proud that our Secular democratic Country stands for Freedom, Fraternity & Liberty, and therefore accomodate space for each other's dignity and sentiments. If reciting this has something to do with a particular religion then it is for the god of that religion to take action not by those who embrace that religion! I believe that our one almighty God desires Love, justice and a Peaceful co-existence among those He has created...every citizen should be honest to their motherland
