Attendance in College
Harshal said...
attendance in college..... is a damn joke... and never to be taken seriously... for one fact and one fact only. Why do they need to make it compulsory? if the teachers are ACTUALLY teaching the sbject properly and with earnest...if they are teaching it dutifully to the point that they have the student's attention then no one will bunk college....however if we have silly pathetic teachers who say dialogues like, "even I am reading this subject with you for the first time" you damn sure can expect that we are gonna bunk or create havoc,if present in class. attendance being compulsory gives us all the more reason to NOT sit... coz as teens...many a times... we hate playing by the rules.

attendance?? well, my college had the criteria of minimum 75% attend....but none of us ever had it below 90%.....y?? the activities and the fun part after d classes.........n i m proud to be from one of the most proff colleges of Delhi University :) forcing people should not be the case.......just provide them with interesting activities, and they would be there.......wot say??

ha ha ha ha.. i think too many rules everywhere tends to make people more vunrable to break rules... :-) I think everyone is mature enough during college time to understand what they wanna do.. and what they dodnt.................

depends on the level of education it should be compulsory till school but in college, a student should be allowed to decide him/herself. Not attending classes will make the student lose whats taught in the class but again teachers should devise novel teaching methods to attract students in class in college where education is beyond just studying text books. College is supposed to shape the minds of students and lead them to maturity and that shouldn't happen under any sort of compulsion

According to me yes .. there should be minimum hours of attendace required .. that gives students more chance to interact with the peers and learn faster. If a student is not interested in attending classroom sessions then he/she should opt for distance education instead that gives more room for ppl interested in going in for classroom studies. attendence is important as its part of the fees (your paying the teacher to yap so might as well go see what he/she has to say). Many colleges dont let students write final exms if they dont fulfill a certain percent of attendence. Its good - it shows some level of dedication. tc :)

Absolutely it should be ..or else dont go to college and waste your parents' money ..it is so important to study .take notes , know your professor ..

yeah, attendance is a joke...it's pathetic and some of these teachers are not fit to teach

I have not seen the movie yet :( And well I shall comment after I am done seeing the movie :P I don't really think it can really help...but then, lemme see after watching! Rang De Basanti had quite an effect on many youngsters..........perhaps Lage Raho MunnaBhai could also have a similar effect After watching movie Divya says: I saw the movie today.....*cheers* And it is one amazing movie...I think it can create a sort of impact - maybe not to the extent that people will stop accepting bribes and all....and definitely not that people will smile when someone spits on their walls and clean it....but perhaps people themselves will stop spitting or something like that....letz jus wait and watch ;) Divya has mentioned an incident.....please see comment for details

Absolutly .. message was clear in the movie, I would suggest everyone to watch it and I am sure ppl would start thinking that I should start telling truth that would resolve all the problems. I have seen some ppl who had made a attempt to do that after the movie ....

I saw the movie this weekend, its amazing as Divya said if we all go out and set such examples, instead of pretending to be cool by our care not dare not attitude, our country may see some reforms in social ethos atleast.

why hasn't man become extinct? only because of the principle of truth which gives rise to many others forms - non-violence/satyagrah etc wipe off truth 100% and next moment we'd have a supernova explosion "the end"

Indian entry to the Oscars
Do you think that an Oscar is the ultimate recognition for any great film?
Lust4Life said...
Oscars - has made a lot of difference in the Film industry. Every year the parameters of movies move 1 step ahead. Well!! I wud not use the word ultimate recognition since many great films hav passed by unnoticed. Indian Entry this year - Omkar (My choice ;)
Divya said...
dis yr it has got 2 b OMKARA - d movie is jus too kool (of course d language is beyond my dictionary :P) n a personal fav wud b RANG DE BASANTI bt den itz not gonna win in d oscarz :(
Harshal said...
heh...the oscar is just a gold statue...it has no real value... doesn't matter how many oscars a movie gets.... if a movie makes a person think, ' i gotta watch this again'..thats your good movie right there... oscars are jsut showpieces...what to do with em?
frenchita said...
Wish I knew the names of movies up for eligibility for the Oscars .. no not Omkara .. )
rups said...
hmmm.... yaar haven't seen much movies this yr.. so cant give you a name.. just thot RDB as a better one..but not oscar type.. waise u never know..if these guys can send "paheli".. then they can send anything!!! oscars obviously..they give a reason to compete..so a reason to become the best.. :-)
Oscar awards are the highest appriciation for any film on a global platform...here the movie is judged and awarded for different aspects...and its a dream for almost all filmakers to get one in their lifetime. Here in India, we have our own FilmFare awards on the same format....but at Oscars Indian films have to compete with the enteries from all over the world...so a very tough competition.... Rang De Basanti is my choice for OSCARS....
anjali said...
oscar is really a very prestigious award.......... my pick is RANG DE BASANTI..........as it has the spirit of modern INDIA........
Rajesh (KachraKing) said...
Oscar ... hummm geezzz .. not sure that any movie that can really be nominated this year .... but my hunch is if karan johar and shah rukh khan bribe properly ... they KANK wud be sent :P

Vande Mataram Issue
Harshal said...
not so much mandatory as much as necessary... come on...it is like...a patriotric song...of course it is necessary...along with the "saare jahan se accha" and the most obvious... the indian national anthem...jana gana mana... besides its fun...kinda stimulates the patriot in you...
Intense said...
Vande Matram was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1876 and this song was instrumental in getting the much desired fire of freedom burn amongst the folks. Though the critics say it is as ode to Durga, still I would say this ode to Durga is far better than the ode to the britishers in the present national anthem : jans- gana-mana....... Moreover the 1st two stanzas just speak about the glory to the mother , which could be glory to the mother India! Whats wrong in this?
Busybee said...
To be honest I see nothing wrong with a national song in praise of the motherland, & I fail to understand the problem muslims have on this issue. How does singing the praise of the motherland clash with your faith in God ? Arent these two eitirely different issues ? Why cant they show some pride in the nation for a change ? but then I also do not belive that singing a song makes one patriotic in anyway, or not singing it makes one a traitor.
balam said...
“Jana Gana Mana…. “ is our national anthem. We must respect our national anthem, get up and maintain proper decorum when it is being played. If a flag has been unfurled and if our head is covered, we may salute the flag too. But there is no such rule, regulation or custom for national song “Vande Mataram”. Any effort to give it a historical sanctity does not make it our national anthem and does not deserve the same treatment.
savy said...
theres nothing wrong with rendering it..as it fills us with an unequal pride...people keep confusing religion with patriotism..at the same time,I wd hate to shove anything down people's throats..it is the feeling within..u cant have a patriotic feeling mired in controversies..the very essence is defeated.
frenchita said...
Yes it should ...absolutely . Even in the madrasaas

Ye Bahut hi jaruri hai...ye sawal hi betuka hai...Bhai hamara Rastriya-Geet hamare Desh mein nahi gayaa jayega to kaha gaya jayega?? Rastriya-Geet aur Rastriya-Gaan hamre Desh ka Maan-sanmaan hamara Abhimaan hai ese saare Bhartiya bade hi Aadar aur Garv se gaate hai. So vivaad ka koi vishay hi nahi hai. Eska gaya jana jaruri aur Anivarya hai.

I not understand why such Patriotic song which can never loose its significance been viewed from Communal angle...the song simply means that we are all one inspite of our respective diversities and that we all have one desire that promotes peace and patriotism...Only in a Communist form of Govt. or by thumbrule or by tyranny can one impose something for a Country. We need to proud that our Secular democratic Country stands for Freedom, Fraternity & Liberty, and therefore accomodate space for each other's dignity and sentiments. If reciting this has something to do with a particular religion then it is for the god of that religion to take action not by those who embrace that religion! I believe that our one almighty God desires Love, justice and a Peaceful co-existence among those He has created...every citizen should be honest to their motherland
Deeps said...
Definitely...it should be sung...it is our nations's patriotic song and it gives us immense pleasure and pride to sing this song...but these present day political parties even fight over this issue.......shame on them!!!!!!!!!!
