Austria has become the first European Union country to lower the voting age in national elections to 16. Should the Voting age be lowered in India also?
Busybee says: like hell ! most of them dont even know who is the PM, Prez, and which party is ruling the country !! the ones who hv voting rights arent using it। I like the initiative taken by the www.jaagore.com of TataTea.
Lostpatrol says: Oh, yes। But then, lower the age for entry to movie-houses to watch A certificate films, buy cigarettes and liquor, visit a dance bar, marry and of course WORK and take RESPONSIBILTY for one's actions...:D.
VS says: who cares, hardly matters
the "Khicdi" of political alliances will still end up making the same mess।
Frthinking says:WE SHOULD EXAMINE ANY ISSUE FUNDAMENTALLY WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG ON THE BASIS OF TRUTH AND REASON RATHER BLINDLY FOLLOWING ANY ORHER COUNTRY.A HUMAN BEING ABOVE 16YEARS OF AGE MAY BE GIVEN THE POWER TO VOTE AND VALUE OF VOTE MAY BE ASSIGNED HALF OF NORMAL POWER.MANY 16 YEARS OLD ARE SECONDARY PASSED.ATLEAST THESE MAY BE ALLWED TO VOTE
Vamsi says: i think the age of 18 is the right age for a human to use his head and judge as to his options and priorities. so, i frankly dont think voting age should be reduced from 18 to 16.
Niceguy251 says: I agree age is no criteria for being mature enough to take important decisions but still there has to be a minumum age stipulated for each important aspect of life. In our country even at 18 youth are still in schools mostly or just out of it. Apart from that even at that age they are still in the formative state well protected by parents or elders. In western countries children are given a lot more freedom making them understand their responsibilities earlier than our youth.
More importantly : Why do we look at West for our own policies?
