TaTa and Singur Project

Do you think that Ratan Tata should pull out his Singur project in West Bengal ?

LP says: If TNC thinks so, and CPM wants him to stay, the best thing for Ratan Tata is to do what he wants। What does he want? Besides threats of pulling out, he isn't doing anything...say tata, Tata!

Vamsi says: i think Tatas should quit singur ... in favour of some "friendly state" ... its true that people have been effected during the land acqusition for the project, which happens in each and every case, whenever there is such in project ... but the fact that people strongly protested this taking away of their land, inspite of they being provided with some compensation, and want their land back, from the day 1, means that Tata's are unwelcome in bengal, and hence tatas should quit ...

Angelzfear says: Well no is my answer to my question, but the question of the land acquisition should be settled in such a manner that the locals are glad to participate in the progress।

Busybee says: It doesnt mk sense to do business in such an unfriendly environment. Let the commies learn a thing or two from this whole मेस

Virtualscorpio says: Absolute YES, if he can absorb the loss

Niceguy251 says: I can live without the latest gizmo but can not sleep on empty stomach। Why I say this is that though industry is needed but not at the cost of food production. SEZs or Industrial Complexes should be set up in land which in not cultiviable. Infrastructure should be set up to have such areas industry friendly. However now that a plant has been set up and even if we dismantle it would the land be usable for cultivation? No. So let TATA continue but with friendly approach to locals.

Ratan tata wanted land and WB govt CPM wanted pretigious industrial projects comming into WB. Why not! even big brother China has changed their economic polcies to capitilist ones, so why not indeed! Who follows marx these day anyways huh? So Wb govt thoguth this would be great PR for their communist driven state, they would give farmers compansation and in turn the factory would provide jobs and all would be hunky dory happy as hell! Then came in mamta banerjee playing the firebrand heroine or vamp, depending on whose side you are. Its anyways election year and she thoguht it a good opportunity to tame the ruling party. After their fiasco at nandigram and disastrous municipal level polls the chastised CPM are now going mellow on their usually stubborn strong rigid way of getting things done. You will ask isnt this about Ratan Tata and the Singur farmers? Well well welcome to indian politics... neither the CPM nor mamta care a flying fig about the farmers rights and wants and nor do they care a rats arse about industry and the economy progressing. All that is stake for them here is their own hides and who will survive the coming election. As far as the farmers are concerned - well they are in the right, its their land. and its their right to refuse to sell it. They have every right to say no. Like Ratan tata they too are equal citizens of india. Or at least thats the way it was suppossed to be when old ambedkar wrote out his constituition. As far as Ratan tata is concerned he is also right. He needs a large tract of land at a stretch. how else can he put up a plant of this size? He is willing to provide jobs, livelihood, healthcare and other facilities. But here the stalemate - Mamta's followers have charged up the farmers and ratan Tata being a nice humane man not a strong arm tactitian like his peers (read ambani brothers etc) doesnt want a hostile situation. remember he didnt even want a hostile takeover of Corus. Solution - as at this stage there is no solution. What Mr. Tata should have done was not to involve the govt in the first place and directly dealt with the farmers himself. My point of view here - I agree completely with capitalism and the encouragement of business and enterprise but its cannot be at the cost of human rights. Never. profitability can never be at the cost of destryoing human rights. You cannot build your castle on other peoples graves!!A man has every right to his property and that right has to be upheld. I have great respect for Mr. Tata yet would ask him if he would like to relinquish his ancestral property in a posh Mumbai area? Im sure many a builder would pay him the moon to demolish the old house where JRD tata lived and build some sky scraper there. Would he sell? :)

Reaching Quarterfinals and post of DSP

The Haryana Government on Friday announced that the four Olympians from Haryana -- boxers Vijender Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Akhil Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt -- who reached quarterfinals in the Beijing Games would be appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). Do you think that government has taken the right decision?

Lp53 says: If the four Olympians punch the criminals out of political ring, the decision is justified। The shooter may also be appointed as IG in राव

Busybee says: :D They do deserve the backing of a good govt job। No better job than as policemen...

Niceguy251 says: We need to encourage sportsmen। This is one good way of ensuring that they do not have to worry about their livelihood and can devote time to sports. Word of caution is it should not be misused to take care of kith & kin.

Sunriseluv says: Having done the country proud and having achieved a personal feat in sports is commendable therefore reward seems जुस्तिफ़िएद

SKJ says: well done, in fact they need to be rewarded not only for their great job inspite of no adequate support from the roots but also for the motivations for themselves as well as the new comers। I AM NOT SURPRISED TO SEE THE NAME OF SAINA NEHWAL WHOSE PERFORMANCE WAS GREAT AT OLYMIC AND SHE LOST ONLY IN QUARTER FINAL. BEFORE THAT SHE HAD DEFEATED WORLD NO.4 BUT OUR IDIOT POLITICIANS LACK THE ALL THOSE FACTORS WHICH CHINA COMMANDS AT PRESENT. WE DO NOT TAKE SERIOUSLY THE REMARK OF ABHINAV BINDRA.

Virtualscorpio says: i think the question is rediclious in itself। In a country where posts/jobs/admissions etc. etc. are reserved/appointed for considerations like caste/creed/religion etc, & no other reason, then atleast these few sportspersons have done much more than most. so, to me this question does not come up for opinions, its just got to be done.

Not at all jobs in govt. should be given on merit only and no other criteria should be there for appointment.Merit means the ability to perform thejob efficintly .There is a mentality in our country that govt. jobs are freebies to be distributed by ministers .would we give theIAS/IPS reservation in sports than why vice versa

Beijing Olympics and India

Are you satisfied with the Indian performance in Beijing Olympics so far?

Vamsi says: i am satisfied with the performance of abhinav। but when it comes to the performance of the 'indian olympic team', i am not satisfied at all ! well, there is always scope for improvement in any field, olympics is no different. in india's case, it has a very very long way to go, from pathetic (i.e., now) to 'brilliant and world beaters'

Busybee says: Nothing to be satisfied about। Abhinav won as an individual... with the help of his fathers money power. If all sportsmen are paid as well as our cricketers are.... Iam sure we would have world beaters. Maybe BCCI shud sponsor some sports॥ or corporates shud sponsor.. then, vegetarianism should be banned.. :D

Lp53 says:Roti, Kapda, Makhan, Gold in that order, when Gold is something not given as dowry॥:P

SKJ says:trust me, it has been one so far....but in the next you will see more n more.... You are mistaken if you are thinking that i m talking about Gold Medals.... I am talking about the sons/daughters of Dhanna-Seths / Crorepatis who take part in Olympic। Lots n lots of may have got motivated and you never know when you more and more guys soon...

Ruggedboyz says: The fact that india has never ever done really well at the olympics, but for a bronze or a silver and now a gold। one must actually be content, atleast this time somewhere a gold but then india does a lot better in cricket for whatever reason and has defeated the best of the best their and so my expectations when india goes to olympics are always zero unlike for common wealth games where they fare a lot better and this time to it is no different and so i can comfortabley say that ya this trip was a nice one to the chinky world

Virtualscorpio says: no, its a crying shame। small unheard of countries get medals , win , have pride. we lack all that. 1 man has 14 golds, we in @ 112 years just have 1 individual gold. where can the saisfaction come from. its like giving a srarving, dying man 1 grain of rice, & a promise that in 4 years time it may be 2 grains - & this happening year after year :(

Niceguy251 says: NO. It is a SHAME that with so much potential we have not bagged more Golds.

Co-ed hostels in India

Is co-ed hostels conducive to Indian background?

Busybee says: "Co-ED" hostel is an oxymoron :D Whats wrong with a combined hostel, wrt Indian background ? anyone staying in a hostel has plenty of freedom even otherwise, to do just what they want। We make too much out of our "Indian" background... like the rest of the world has no culture or background. unisex hostels are a better idea if one has to focus on education tho :D.

Virtualscorpio says:wud disagree wid bee, the temptations wud be 2 much :(

Niceguy251 says:I tend to agree with Busybee। VS has taken stand typical of our society. We behave like ostriches. We pretend to ignore what is going on in present days. I now speak from my personal experience. I have been interacting with youngsters, both boys & girls, of 15 to 30. The amount of things I have learnt is amazing. Parents would never ever imagine that. They have had much more exposure to sex even while in 9th standard or so. This has been confided by girls as well as boys. My advice to all of them has always been " There is nothing right or wrong. It is all in minds of people. There is age and time for everything. They should think of consequences of their acts and follow what conscience permits." This is exactly what I had told my children too when they were in final years of schooling. Be more friends to your children than parent. There is nothing wrong in having co-ed hostels but with proper administration and counselling.

Lp53 says: Wud love to enrol in school when these hostels become a reality..:p

JEE fails to get the best

The director and the dean of IIT-Madras have called for radical changes in the JEE, saying that the coaching institutes were enabling many among the less-than-best students to crack the test and keeping girls from qualifying. Do you think that JEE is failing to get the best?

Busybee says: hmm... this one is difficult to comment on। Mostly girls arent that much into engg :D. The % of girls is less than 1/10 of the guys॥at IIT Mum, if I am not mistaken. If what he says is true, then the girls also shud go to the coaching class way.. The best cant be kept away... by the less than the best. Hard to buy argument that.... meaning that the best wud reach the top w/o an IIT degree too. An IIT degree is not the ultimate guarantee of success..

Vamsi says:if a dean of an IIT says that his students are not top-class, then this becomes an issue। i dont know how much 'reservations' and starting new IITs from this academic year 'dilutes' quality of students out of IITs. but, he telling student joining IITs are low-class, is a problem.

Niceguy251 says:I understand standards have fallen almost everywhere for some reason or the other including reservations। I think we need to overhaul selection process for services which affect us e g Medical, Engineering and Defence to ensure we get right material for these.

Ruggedboyz says:Its a age old phenomenon in india that while boys excel in exams where analytical skills are at test while girls do better when it is putting in effort and commiting to heart its their forte but who the hell and what the hell is the issue of lesser mortals making big with an institue thing if their is any such institute then government must sponsor girl students their so that they do well in IIT if that exactly is the insane reason why girlie girls are lagging behind
