LP says:No, we should not depend on other nations. However, we should forge an alliance of willing nations. This 'international community' is our back-up when we fight the terror, with every options and means at our disposal including all-out war against nations that harbour them. Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill, 2008, introduced this week in the Rajya Sabha, proposes that both government and private schools across the country not fail students for poor performance until they complete elementary education (class VIII), nor throw anyone out of school. Do you think that kids won't take studies seriously if there is no failure ?

Niceguy251 says:Children are overburdened these days। It is not a bad idea not to fail any youngster till he or she reaches class VIII. To implement this schools will need to gear up to make children do assignments in the classroom and little home work to ensure that whatever is taught has been assimilated.

India Moon Mission

Should India send a man to the Moon? Will this benefit the country or could the money be more wisely spent?

We cannot stop sending a child to school to save money to repair the roof.. or buy food. Niceguy251 says: In corporate all depends on BOTTOM LINE। So it is but natural that economic slow down will affect recruitments and campus ones will be the first ones to suffer as the focus will be on proven persons. Education? Not very directly but in a roundabout way.

Niceguy251 says: I agree age is no criteria for being mature enough to take important decisions but still there has to be a minumum age stipulated for each important aspect of life. In our country even at 18 youth are still in schools mostly or just out of it. Apart from that even at that age they are still in the formative state well protected by parents or elders. In western countries children are given a lot more freedom making them understand their responsibilities earlier than our youth.
More importantly : Why do we look at West for our own policies?

Laws and Terror

Does india need tougher laws to fight terror ?

VS says: yes, india should take a proactive, not a reactive approach। this menace has to dealt head on, else it wud go out of control। the political will has a long way to go & somebody like KPS Gill has to be at the helm of control measures.

LP says: Only naive believe that our police do not have 'teeth' and the laws are 'soft'। Ask politicans like George Fernandes, Vaiko,॥ Police need more spine, brains, ethics, and resources. No to more muscular laws. The answer is no.

Busybee says: I also believe that we dont really requrie more laws, but do need a pro-active approach। No political interference with an eye at their vote banks.

SMITA RAJAN says: Indian government does need stringent laws to control the terrorism menace। With that, the delayed punishments should be avoided. Terrorists have different means to free their companions that would again risk some lives. Once caught, they should be punished immediately.

Niceguy251 says: We do not need any more laws as present ones are adequate if implemented properly. With draconian laws chances of misuse are very high as then law enforcing agecies ( police ) and politicians in power would lock up anyone at their whims and fancies. Need of the hour is to revamp and reorganise the police & intelligencies agencies freeing them from political interference. AND FOREMOST IS THAT ALL POLITICIANS SHOULD BURY THEIR PETTY DIFFERENCES TO JOINTLY FIGHT THIS MENANCE. Political WILL has to be strong and beyond political lines.

Magnitude of this test lead to a lot of speculations which were played up by media. The tests are not yet over as if I am not mistaken it was reported that collisions will occure in two months. We may never come to know what damage was done to the site or surrounding areas as it will be kept a closely guarded secret.

TaTa and Singur Project

Do you think that Ratan Tata should pull out his Singur project in West Bengal ?

LP says: If TNC thinks so, and CPM wants him to stay, the best thing for Ratan Tata is to do what he wants। What does he want? Besides threats of pulling out, he isn't doing anything...say tata, Tata!

Vamsi says: i think Tatas should quit singur ... in favour of some "friendly state" ... its true that people have been effected during the land acqusition for the project, which happens in each and every case, whenever there is such in project ... but the fact that people strongly protested this taking away of their land, inspite of they being provided with some compensation, and want their land back, from the day 1, means that Tata's are unwelcome in bengal, and hence tatas should quit ...

SEZs or Industrial Complexes should be set up in land which in not cultiviable. Infrastructure should be set up to have such areas industry friendly. However now that a plant has been set up and even if we dismantle it would the land be usable for cultivation? No. So let TATA continue but with friendly approach to locals.

Well well welcome to indian politics... neither the CPM nor mamta care a flying fig about the farmers rights and wants and nor do they care a rats arse about industry and the economy progressing. All that is stake for them here is their own hides and who will survive the coming election.As far as the farmers are concerned - well they are in the right, its their land. and its their right to refuse to sell it. They have every right to say no. Like Ratan tata they too are equal citizens of india. Or at least thats the way it was suppossed to be when old ambedkar wrote out his constituition.As far as Ratan tata is concerned he is also right. He needs a large tract of land at a stretch. how else can he put up a plant of this size? He is willing to provide jobs, livelihood, healthcare and other facilities. But here the stalemate - Mamta's followers have charged up the farmers and ratan Tata being a nice humane man not a strong arm tactitian like his peers (read ambani brothers etc) doesnt want a hostile situation. remember he didnt even want a hostile takeover of Corus. Solution - as at this stage there is no solution. What Mr. Tata should have done was not to involve the govt in the first place and directly dealt with the farmers himself.My point of view here - I agree completely with capitalism and the encouragement of business and enterprise but its cannot be at the cost of human rights. Never. profitability can never be at the cost of destryoing human rights.You cannot build your castle on other peoples graves!!A man has every right to his property and that right has to be upheld. I have great respect for Mr. Tata yet would ask him if he would like to relinquish his ancestral property in a posh Mumbai area? Im sure many a builder would pay him the moon to demolish the old house where JRD tata lived and build some sky scraper there. Would he sell? :)
