Sixth Pay Commission and Government organisations

The Sixth Pay Commission on Monday recommended a hefty increase in salaries of over four million central government employees.Do you think that increase is salaries will change the work culture in government organisations?

Busybee says: :D:D:D... it would help fuel inflation is what I can see. why should a better pay packet make a govt employee work hard or become incorruptible ? The govt shud reduce the work force.

Vamsi says: the recomemdations of the pay commission will come as a boon for the government employees ... but ... knowing the general mentality of the government employees ... i doubt whether their performance will improve ... corruption will remain the nasty pillar of governance in india ... but ... i foresee a huge influx of people wanting to get government jobs ... it would be nice if the government departments become more performance oriented ... now that the concerns of the employees are taken care of ... have i become overly optimistic ? lets see !

LP says: Only 50%? Too bad. Too little too late. G0ld is dearer by 250%. Reliance stock by 500%. Forex have surged from 1 Billion in 1991 to 333 billion in 2008 Index the sal8aries to gold price, reliance share price or forex reserves..:D

There are three issues involved in this and I will take them up one by one. First: Will this hike eradicate or reduce corruption? Answer is NO. We need to overhaul the system and kill rootcause of this malady. Second : Will it increase efficiency? Again NO. For that we need to have right kind of people at top who lead by example and there should be NO interference from politicians. Thirdly : Should the pay structure of Govt employees be at par with Corporates? NO. You have to keep in mind the terms & conditions of service. Govt employees have pensionable service, liberal leave rules, medical facilities, subsidised housing and above all JOB SECURITY. There is no linkage of increments or retention with performance as in corporate service.

National game -Hockey or Cricket

Eight-time Olympic champions in hockey India failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time in 80 years.Do you think that Cricket should be made the national game ?

Vamsi says: i dont think Hockey will loose its status as the national sport of India ... and if someone tries to dislodge Hockey as the National Sport and place any other sport ... then if any other sport becomes popular in its place ... then what happens ? It should be remembered that Hockey is the first sport of Independent India which has brought laurels to India ... and just because Hockey is in dire straits at present doesnt mean that we should leave hockey ... Hockey is and will remain our national sport !

Busybee says: officially hockey may be the national game, but in truth it isnt. This however does not mean that we should mk cricket the national game.. The IHF should be cleaned up and let the game br prioritised now.. Actually Polo (I dont mean the mint with the hole.. :D:D:D...) should have been our national game, as it originated here.

Niceguy251 says: Cricket gained popularity due to extenssive media coverage and money involved.How often do we see hockey or for that matter even other games covered in that manner? We need to take an open minded look at causes of our failure in Hockey as well as other games. In olden days hockey was game of dribbling and if I am not mistaken Dhyan Chand was a wizard at carrying the ball all the way to opponent's goal dodging their defence. In one of the tournaments it was suggested that his hockey stick has glue to keep the ball stuck. It was checked and allegation found to be untrue. But thereafter hockey has been developed into a game of cross passes by European countries which we have not been able to properly assess & incorporate in our strategy for the game. And of course politics in our sports orgnisations is also to be blamed to a large extent. Polo was also originated in India so it should also be given it's rightful place apart from Hockey.

Do you think that the government should have absolute copyright over appellations "Indian" and "National" when it comes to using them for educational institutions?

Lostpatrol says: No, Indian School o fBusiness, in Hyderabad, among the top-notch schools, isn't governmenta institution. In fact, government should get out of education. It can set up and administer an autonomous Regulatory Authority throuh its appointees. No schools will remain in rural areas and backward classes will not be educated, you say? Government schools in the villages at primary level are root cause for our falling behind.

We could have a regulatory body who sets some preconditions for use of words for any product lest it is misleading or degrading for someone. Age of Consent

The Law Commission on Wednesday recommended that the age of consent for sex should be raised from 15 years to 16 years for girls, regardless of marriage.
Do you think that 16 yrs age is appropriate ?

Niceguy251 says: You must have read survey reports of many an agencies or newspapers regarding what is going on at young age these days. That I can vouch for is just a tip of the iceberg. I have had occassion to talk to some of the youngsters informally and what I learnt has made me not to be surprised or shocked at anything now. But I still maintain that age for consent of a girl be 16 and for marriage for girl 18 and boy 21. Let them at least complete their education before taking on responsibilities of family life.

2010 Commonwealth Games and Beggars

This, officials say, will be a foolproof process for identifying habitual beggars who can then be rehabilitated. Do you think that Govt. will succeed in its efforts?

Lionking says: this is one of the most preposterous idea i have ever heard ... maybe if government wants to spend money ... then they can give jobs ... or to people who are disabled ... they can take the help of some NGOs and make sure that their life is look after ... giving biometrical identification if materializes ... will become a new form of caste system ... wherein beggars will be labled as "beggars" and they will have to bear more more social trauma ... i should not say this ... but this decision sounds just hilarious !

Lp53 says: We must accept that destitues will always be there with us and some of them will end up into begging, pimping, prostituting, stealing, cheating and so forth. We must not lay the responsibility of their daily upkeep on the government. Let us free the government of the guilt whihc it is trying to expiate by such novel ideas. To shake us off being smug and content bout ourselves -- we who are more fortunate than them. God wants us to care for each other, to share our gifts with others in a reasonable and fair manner. Lionking says: this IPL is surely going to be very popular and will give another dimension to the game of cricket. the way cricket is being played, run, managed, viewed, will change dramatically ... players, support staff, sponsors, BCCI, ICC, other boards, viewers, other "stake holders" will be very much into this IPL ... and as IPL starts ... BCCI will become more rich and more careless in dealing with petty issues !

Supreme Court and Patient prior consent

In a landmark ruling that would chasten private hospitals and nursing homes that are often accused of inflating bills, the Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that doctors cannot perform additional procedures during a scheduled operation without the patient's prior consent, except in cases where a life is in danger. Do you think that this ruling will be effective?

Lionking says: yes this is a very good judgement ... patients and their families have the right to know the procedures that are being adopted by the doctors ... and pre-intimation and taking the patients consent is the way to go ...

LP53 says: Yes, a precedent has been set. Effective? It is in our hands, the patients and their relatives, if we want to demand our rights.

Niceguy251 says: It is because of some unethical doctors that this judgement was necessiated. Patient and relatives must know before the operation if there is likelihood of any complication needing further surgery or procedure and affect of that on cost. It is possible for doctors to indicate that.

Busbyee says: yes, effective with an educated patient. unless ofcourse, the concerned operation is not being done to steal a kidney or two..

Savy says: it is a very good decision...especially so for eg in cases of angioplasty..when the patient is having angiography and the procedure is halfway through..normal practice for the docs is to take the inference of the test to the relatives and usually a go through signal is wrested.relatives usually cow down listen to the extent of blockages and the hapless patient is totally oblivious...many a times it is not recquired also.This ws just one example..results are inflated bills and avoidable invasion of the patient's body.

ID Proof and Terrorist Activities

From January 15, any citizen living in the National Capital can be asked by police to produce his or her identity proof, failing which could land the person in trouble. “The decision to verify the identity of citizens has been taken to step up security in the wake of recent terror attacks in various parts of the country. The checking would help prevent such incidents,” Lieutenant Governor Tejinder Khanna told reporters. Do you think that this move will be helpful in eliminating terrorist activities ?

Virtualscorpio says:Unfortunately, i do not see this helping in curbing terriorism. How difficult is it 2 get a fake ID card. Maybe all of Rs. 50/- A red light at a traffic signal means stop. How many do???? Rules r gud if followed, else u can keep adding them & corruption keeps going up.

Ruggedboyz says: While the step is one taken in order to stepup the security measures and bring in more security to the citizens it is at the cost of putting natives to atmost inconvience and burden of always having a card as a citizen in his own land, which is upon his office id, his driving licence, his credit debit cards and his other membership cards ala gym, discount cards et al but i have the feeling if it was a simple number given which could be memorised and produced and found in the database it would have been much easier than a citizen card above his passport and election id and co..

Lionking says: i think the Lt.Gov. of Delhi had to meet Delhi CM on this issue and this ID card was not made compulsory after that meeting ... as its a political hot potato ! it still holds is it ??? we still need ID on delhi roads is it ??? i am not sure ... but, the idea of a Citizen Identity Card for the people of India is a good idea ... but its also a logistical nightmare for the government !

Two NRI women were molested by a mob of about 70 men during New Year revelries near Juhu beach .Do you think that this type of incident happens due to lack of gender sensitisation and values? Are you satisfied with the role of police in this case?

Supreme Court and Tenants

The Supreme Court has put up a "good behaviour" signal for tenants, making it clear that those who misbehave with the owner of the premises are liable for eviction. Do you think that this law will put the tenants in a more difficult situation ?

Hence the urgent announcement of the BJP to make Advani as the PM candidate. but, have to confess ... Lionking says: i heard that these women cab drivers are given courses of self defence like karate, etc. but, as naveen mentioned ... these women cab drivers should be tried in the day shifts first ... and after seeing their results ... they can be tried in around the clock. in hyd, we have women conductors in the state transport busses ... so i dont see why there would be any problem for women in daylight. but, sure this is going to be quite a risky proposition both for the cab service operators and the women cab drivers themselves. the best part in the service is that the drivers are given their own walky talky so that they can remain in touch with the control room ... and possible with the police.

There are definitely more adequate ways to ensure safety of women employees with male drivers too if one really wants to do so. But even simple safeguards are overlooked due to cutting corners for saving expences.

it indeed sad to note that 3 crores cases are pending in Indian Courts. This can be best seen in the recent advertisement of Plywood, wherein the case of some young people drags on till they become old, and still after that the case is adjourned. the first thing is the lawyers reluctance to get a final verdict on the case, fearing that their Case money would be deprived off them if the case is closed earlier. second, the ignorance of the common people who have not enough knowledge of the legal procedures, and tend to wholly depend on the lawyers, and find that their verdict is being postponed because of the first reason mentioned above. third, not enough Law Staff to deal with the ever increasing cases, and the government giving a blind eye on the matter. fourth, political motives which would like to have the cases drag on instead of complete closure of the cases. fifth, the complexity of the indian laws make it much time consuming process, hence the delay. all the reasons mentioned above do contribute to the adding up of the cases.

This surely looks very sad state of affairs. What we need is proper analysis. Out of these 3 crores pending cases how many are at which level of courts, how many fall under petty cases category and last but not the least how many have had NO progress for the last six months or more due to non attendance of either party by virtue of taking shelter behind medical or legal excuse. Once this study is done it may be that most of these are either trival cases or manipulated for dates. That is where law needs to change with times to keep pace.

In its urgent effort to erase Punjab's darkest gender blot, SGPC will soon ask important gurdwaras in Punjab to place cradles at their entrances and exhort unhappy parents obsessed with boys to leave "those innocent children at god's door, not death's". Do you think that this initiative will be helpful in controlling state's dipping sex ratio and terror tales of girls, both born and unborn, being killed or left to die?

A wonderful gesture indeed. Given the Indian context it cud become counterproductive. People now will have an unobstructed outlet to leave such child girls, fully aware that gud care wud be taken. This geture has to be rigoursly followed up wid educating the younger masses the moral implications of their deeds. If this kinds of education/culture be inculcated that the girl child is as gud if not better, then the positioning of cradles wud serve as the first step in the right direction.

the initiative taken by gurudwara commitee is good on humanitarian grounds. but, it is worth reminding that girls also deserve family life like boys. so, it would be nice if gurudwara educates the people, to do away with the need for something like this. but, this initiative would be fine in the short-term basis.

This wont change the sex ratio. This ratio is less becos of the abortions of female foetus, and not only the abandoning of girl babies. For the sex ratio to change, we need social engineering. Changing of mindsets.

this step to seems as if we are accepting the second rung status for girls & allowing people to abandon the girl child I would prefer if SGPC comes forward and takes the bold step of declaring all those who kill female foetuses/kill girls for dowry/rape/do atrocities on females as outcasts and orders the others to end any sort of relationship with such people I believe in small towns/villages this step can bring a difference.

I agree with VS " No gain without pain ". If you wish to enjoy comforts of advanced technology you have to pay the price too. Do you think all the aircrafts flying around do not affect the atomsphere? Have you seen aviation fuel trails in the sky behind every aircraft under some weather conditions but it is so all the time? When our technological advancement reaches a point when it is beyond Mother Nature to accomodate, it will be the end.
