Yes - I would be proud 1. Hes an Indian. 2. wud disagree wid abx. Mukesh cannot take responsibility of all millions of Indians. Ur elected representatives shud have done that in the last 60 years. Yet thousands wud have gained meaningful employment & millions made money thru share market etc. 3. Such things motivates others to do better & confidence of fellow Indian Businessmen etc grows. 4. At a certain period of time, Indians weer the richest, in terms of wealth as well as spiritually. This is the first step towards gaining the no. 1 spot wealthwise. I suppose this should lead to spiritual upliftment also. When a person is fully fed & clothed, he then helps others.

He has still the same wealth what he had few days ago but with value of rupee going up he becomes richest in terms of US$. Wait till US$ get up again and then we will see. It does feel nice to have an Indian and not a person of Indian origin achieving some high. He should share it with his unfortunate countrymen by way of some meaningful social activity.

I don't see why this is an issue ofpride. Its good for him that he got rich becausing of a falling dollar. I will be proud the day there is justice, equality, no communal violence, no police brutality, and grossly reduced poverty in India. Oh! greatest moment of pride will be if India can get its population below a billion with an eventual goal of 600 million. These are achievemnts worthy of pride. One rich guy? Good for him, but who cares .... I agree with another poster, if this was achieved by Dirubhai, then yes it would be an achievemnet, for he actually created an empire out of nothing.

Security for Netas
The Delhi high court deplored the practice of politicians moving around with gun-toting security gaurds, which has come be treated as a “status symbol” and causes inconvenience to public.A division bench headed by Justice T S Thakur said politicians were not a “national asset” that should be protected by so many security personnel.Do you agree with this statement?

i have a solution for the men who feel threatened by the chance of their wives thinking about other men.... let men start "giving" dowry to girl's parents and then they can demand in return that the women will not think abt other men if the men cant give the dowry, they can't demand this thing and should accept women doing what they themselves do at every traffic signal/resturant/market etc. LOLZZZZZZ

Indian Women, Tradition and Career
Women in India is passing through the twilight zone of tradition and modernity. Caught between the home and office, they are engaged in a tough struggle for a viable position in their job.If tradition comes in the way of career, should they ignore it?

depends ..if the girls inlaws insist she stay at home and be a housewife ..she should not yield but continue her career if she wants to.... if her small kids need her and the baby sitter is lacking ...she should put her kids ahead of her job everything is possible if she has an understanding huband ..he is the key figure but generally speaking ..i feel a woman should maintain her career ...and be financially independent .and never take crap from her husband and society to hell with tradition ..

I suppose there cant be one single - either /or - situation. A lot depends on the location of the woman - metro/city/town/village. Traditions may have little values in big cities like Mumbai & career would be the only thing, yet in a smaller town , say in Bihar, the reverse would be true. Both would be correct in their respective conditions. The next factor, India being a large country, would be the family background, tradition, beliefs etc. as well as those of the family she goes to would matter. Ultimately, the decision should be based on firstly her choice, but also keeping in view the thinking of the family.

The question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. Tradition or career -- this should be settled early before marriage. Deciding that when already in the marriage isn't smart --it would invite more issues, division, or conflict in the home, with the children, or in relation to one's parents or in-laws. There will be no peace.

Ram Sethu and Development
Many environmentalists says that dredging of the canal may bring natural disaster, tidal waves, and cyclone also that where this dredged material will be disposed of. Should we ignore faith/belief/religion/feelings of millions if it come in the way of progress/technological development?

A detour around Sri Lanka increases the distance by about 250kms max. Plus there is no restriction on number of vessels going on that route. However the SS project will make the speed of vessels go down so much that only about 6-8hrs would be saved. Plus only 10-15 vessels would be allowed in either direction per day. Considering the above and the fact that there is a stark contrast in the ecosystems of BoB and Indian ocean, there will surely be ecological damage of unprecedented volumes. The water flow/current directions are different in both the seas, and this is a natural protection against unwanted tropical filling in the BoB. Lets just forget the religious issue here. The enviro issue itself is just too great to ignore.

The Panama and suez canals made sense. How much are we saving here? This is not a religious issue, just a common sense issue. I personally do not see the point of risking an ecological change.

Ram Samudra Canal Project is being politicised to embarass inept handling of an affidavit in the court. Even Ram would not forgive such badnaami of his name. It isn't that the waters are separated. It isn't that ships aren't sailing. The waters are navigable. It is about dredging to allow larger, Cape or Supertankers and larger naval ships to pass. The project must go ahead. I would like the dredged earth to be used to create an island near Dhanuskodi. It should be include Ram Temple, a wonder of new world, and a large airport to bring in atleast 50 million religious tourists annually. Several ports shoudl be developed to organise eco-tourism, and other water sports...

NCERT and Evaluation Criteria
Concerned over increasing number of suicides among students, the NCERT, a central apex body, has suggested to schools across the country to replace the word fail with unsatisfactory or repeat.Do you think that this is a right move?

yes. atleast one doesnt think of oneself as a failure. but the problem is not just what one thinks, but the expectations of parents. unless parents behave differently, we cant expect a big difference in the suicide rate. parents and teachers must encourage and not discourage children who dont score the required marks..

How could they make such a sweeping statement; it's taken case to case. lols I think that marriage, live-in, or any other relationship for that matter, would truly depend on the persons involved in it. I see some marriages in which the husband shares in the housework beautifully ....and some live-in arrangements in which the male is such a big lazy inconsiderate slob. What would make this work or make the male actively involved in the responsibilities of keeping house is a no-nonsense approach to this kind of issue. A broader understanding of expectations obligations and responsibilities and a realistic view of the marriage can pave the way for doing what should be jointly done in the home. The old Stereotypes of male and female roles are disappearing and replaced by this kind of give-and-take environment in home management. I don't believe that one should do specific things just because she is female... or rather that one should not do anything that a female is expected to do because he is male. That doesn't work anymore. It's old school. A relationship of sharing has a better chance of making it in this rough and tumble world of marriages or live-in's. The thing is know your own strengths and weaknesses, communicate it, and put these to good and better use in your home with your partner for the kind of life you both mutually agree to have.

I have written on this couple of days ago. It is sad but what are we doing to get to root cause of this malady? There are many Gitus or even Jitus. Media should play a positive role insted of just making news sensational. They should try to find what caused her to reach this state and bring that out so near & dear ones can check it for the probable victims.

No this wont make any difference. there are many models and wannabe starlets like Gitanjali who take up prostitution to maintain a lifestyle and be seen at all the happening places in Mumbai. A few manage to make it while most dont... and slip away to oblivion. But why such concern for one human being when there are so many like her around ? She went off track on her own, whereas most of the girls in Mumbai's red light area have been forced into prostitution..

Ban on Women Bartenders
Delhi Government feels that there should be a ban on women bartenders in the city. Reason-Men often make advances towards women under influence of liquor leading to offensive behaviour which is an affront to the dignity of women .

I think both genders would do equally well at the job. :-) No argument there. I've seen my friends, male and female, excelling at their HR posts. It's not who's better at it, but rather who can be more effective with using the talents GOD provided each one of the two genders separately and distinctly. Women are equipped by an all-wise and knowing God with the distinct ability to NURTURE growth - development - maturity in a person. Nurturing or the mother instinct as commonly known therefore is a woman's basic function. That, as I understand it, can work wonders in a people-oriented job as HR. While the men, as is generally known, are more adept with facts and figures thus are far more capable of executing firm policies, rules, and company regulations decisively. I think the two can work together complementing each other 's roles. One can fill-in the other person's weakness with his or her own strength and vice-versa. That can be a power-packed duo to beat!

Children come to school to learn. If they make mistakes in the classroom and surely they would, the teacher should focus on the learning opportunity of that moment. Because the greatest lessons can be had and learned through one's honest mistakes, whether inside or outside of the classroom.

Even though I am totally against hurting/abusing a child or student but there should be some sort of consequences for misbehaviour otherwise kids will get out of hands and India will face the same situation as most of the western world where parents or teachers cant do much and the teenagers are getting into crime and ending up in prisons. may be encouraging positrive behaviour, talking to parents or counselling should be considered as some of the options but children should know that there should be some consequence if they dont follow the rules.

Schools are temples of learning, and apart from bookish lessons their are moral lessons to be learnt, which include that if you make mistakes without learning from them, you are bound to be punished .. so if we take the scolding or punishing part out the equation, children might be inclined towards making same mistakes again and again and not learn from them. There have been rare cases of teachers who have gone to extremes in punishing the students (which are bad) but the whole thing has been blown out of proportion (again by media), and people are now using it to tarnish the image of Teachers in general.

yes .. and we all know what kind of restrictions ..on what kind of clothes ..applies to the girls mostly ..but may apply to boys also ...like very short short shorts or tightttt jeans or footwear required ... more important than that is to enforce that the students attend classes or else be made to fail ..

I believe that in every person's closet are different sets of clothes -- one for every place, purpose, and occasion. Casual for everyday wear, modest for church, business for board meets, gowns for gala nights, play garbs for sports , etc etc. School wear can't be any different. The thing is--- it is a place for learning. And the least distractions one gets or gives should be the norm or dress etiquette. That carries on to one's style of dressing. The girls should not bare themselves unrestrained; that should be reserved for glamorous evening wear or for frolic on the beach with beach attire. The guys could also exercise some restraint in wearing those heavy leather jackets; those belong on big motorbikes and in the winter season. It's plain old common sense and respect - you find yourself in a particular place for a particular reason. So then think, speak, act, and dress accordingly. Unless you're there for a different reason.

Sati Act Amendments and Community
GoM clears amendments to the Sati Act which propose to make the entire village or community responsible for the crime. Do you think that this amendments is in the interest of society?

We cannot create a parallel institution or organization by 'essemessization'. The votes on SMSs do not confer a status contrary to what UNESCO says. In matters of culture the international institution UNESCO has the last word. We have to respect the Institutions we create as such. Otherise chaos rules. The pyramids dating back to 5000 BC were given an honorary status by these pseudo-culture-vultures. I do not find any irony more than this. If you permit me to say that this whole exercise is a big 'humbug', a clever ploy to mint some easy money. The organizers must thank only the 'technology' for their 'audacity'. As for 'textbooks', it makes no difference anyway, because children/students do not remember any or all these marvels as they grow as the average memory levels fall year after year.

Why not?! There's a lot of history in every one of them. That should be good to know. I have no idea if this new list was created by a reliable official source... but let's leave that. Every outstanding piece of work or achievement from those countries mentioned deserve to be recognized, admired, and remembered. By that alone it deserves to be in books.

first, i'd like to know more about the credibility of the organization conducting this voting secondly when it comes to world stage, lets give some space to nationalism and look at the world at large. Let the best win. I have not voted because i am not aware of the complete history and significance of others on the list, so am not able to compare besides the fact that i have my doubts on the organizers

all the news channels say that it is a mere gimmick......this voting and all........... anyways, if for once v keep aside this voting thing that is going on....I guess it would be a proud moment for us if Taj can retain its place in the 7 wonders......for that we need 2 preserve our monuments and maintain them........:) rest shall follow..........

Do we need a mirror to look at the wrist watch on our hands? Do we really need others' ratings of our 'Tear drop frozen on the cheeks of Time"? I think even the Toursim Ministry lost count of the Heads of States who posed with the Taj? If any one mentions India, the first thing comes to mind of that foreigner is definitely Taj. This is a vote in itself. Even if it does not make to the proposed list, it still maintains its special place both in the hearts of all Indians and the many outsiders who make it a point to have a 'darshan' of it. It is a mark of Love and we will all continue to adore it as such. Jab raat ka aanchal laharaayee aur saara aalam so jaaye, tum, mujhse milne shamma jalaa kar 'taj mahal' mein aa jaana. Wah Taj Mahal.

Taj or whatever wonder there is in other parts of the world should be treasured and preserved. But we don't need a list of sorts to do that. Whether it has a history of good or bad in it is not the point. The thing is it represents the country in a very distinct way with its unique identity & story. In the same way that our Mayon Volcano - known as the perfect cone - is immediately associated with the Philippines, the Taj is uniquely India. Someday I hope to visit the Taj myself! :-)

Each SMS costs 3 bucks, and the organisers get 1 buck out of each sms. A few crore Indians must have messaged and a few thousands must have sent a dozen messages. The promoter is sitting on a gold mine!

Swami Ramdev is to Yoga what Osho Rajneesh was to Gurudom in the good old days. The best yoga Teacher who recognized the mass frenzy and suceeded in diverting the eyes of the 'saas bahu glued obese grihinis' to many of his difficult poses. I can still see the bald headed men sitting on benches in parks, in buses rubbing their finger nails, in the hope that the 'rub-bish' generates hair on their heads. It is true he has made YOGA a household name and there is no denying the fact. But at the same time also built an empire by way of building ashrams and selling the (bone powder--I do not belong to Brinda Karat Group) alleged medicines. His nomination to "Bharat Ratna" surely connected to how good he is in the books of the political parties that may or that is in power. I like his preachings on 'swadeshi'. But I dont like his stressing of the point as if forcing his opinions on others. Just for the service of "YOGA", Swami Ram Dev does not deserve "Bharat Ratna". The proposal itself sounds lopsided. On second thoughts he will definitely be conferred Bharat Ratna if he were to get Nobel Peace Prize. I write this while performing 'seershasana'. ha ha ha ha

Yes, he should be given. I saw many people who got benifited from his practices, he popularised it. All people got benifited from him irrespective or age. IT worked for many, thats the reason it got more popularised just not becoz it was advertised. Before him 100's came why did not they made what he did?
