Adultery and Society

Criminal Justice Policy draft says that adultery should be treated as a social
rather than a criminal offence. Do you think that this draft is good for society?

Protegeoflife said…
shud be treated as offence

GussaWaala said…
In a free society why should adultery be a crime? I think the government should focus on more important issues. Parents, society, communities, and good education should teach people appropriate moral values. However, at the end of the day no one can enforce it.

lavina said…
Oh, so we are left with no other serious issue other than adultery??

Vrij said…
Does that provide more liberty to indulge in adultery?

frenchita said…
If at all adultery is an offence ..it is an social one ..hardly criminal ..unless there is physical abuse associated .. should be handled on an individual basis ..certainly should not be encouraged !!

Has to be me said…
By doing so arent they encouraging adultery? Anycase an offence is an offence...irrespective of whether it is social or criminal! And surely steps shd be taken to set it right.

umesh said…
It is basically a social problem. But marriage is not mockery.adultery kills the partner emotionally, cripple the self confidence and leaves a permanent scar. In India, men takes wives for granted. This might give them a licence commit adultary without fear. No, we are not ready yet. it is still a crime.

lostpatrol53 said…
Adultery is breach of contract, trust and covenant between two individuals. It is akin to cheating, forgery and therefore should be treated as such. It should continue to be criminal offense.

garfield1754 said…
Hi, You know what we ppl are the biggest Hypocrites , we believe or do something and say something, dont understand wby it is like this . Ppl who say its is social issue generally are the ones doing it at ground level . Criminal offence - No way ..whats wrong in doing a thing by which we feel happy about it . I tell you we take it as crime or social taboo because of the ppl we have around .Moreover there is nothing wrong or right about anything it is all relative and person dependent . If this issue have been raised in other part of the word there would have been no fuss about it and infct ppl have ignored something as foolish as this . So till the time ur happy and its for the good i dont see anything wrong in it . It shud not be criminal offence at all and as for social thing ..its complicated to discuss as depends where we live and what kind of ppl we have around .

DecentmonKey said…
Agree with the new policy draft.. This also highlights the need to amend more such old and outdated laws..

savy said…
adultry is as bad as any other bad habit...but effects are more devastating..still it remains only a social problem. With changing lifestyles..it is soon going to cease being even that because we are developing tolerance and acceptance in the same way as getting desensitised..

Ban on cooking at food vends on footpaths

The Supreme Court banned cooking at food vends on footpaths while finalizing the hawking and squatting schemes for Delhi.
Do you think that this decision is in the interest of public?

lostpatrol53 said…
The intended (ideal) result is in the national and public interest. The real (would be) result is not. The hawkers will find new businesses; the customers will find new outlets to eat; the footpaths will be taken over by anyone but the pedestrians unless and until the law enforcers are not bribed and won't be swayedby bribes. We need to return the footpaths to our pedestrians, the roads to our vehicles and the buildings to our businesses. A Supreme Court ban alone can't do it. Open spaces, even sections of public places where people congregate are required to be set apart exclusivley for food vendors, for cooking and running their cheap eateries...

GussaWaala said…
Yes it is in the interest of the 300 million that make up India's middle and upper class, thrives on corruption and bribes, and rules the remaining 700 million. How dare a poor man start a business from which I cannot profit or to which I cannot dictate terms.

blogesh said…
Yes it is and has to be.

umesh said…
It is a welcome judgement. It is not only the matter of hygiene, public health and disease, it also relates the problem of encroachment of footpath, thus reducing accidents. Supreme Court is doing a good job for delhi. God save other cities!!

Sumit said…
Well it should be. But if you are taking something away you have to have alternatives and if they cannot comeup with hygenic and edible alternatives that are available at ease it will turn out to be a lost cause. This should be an exercise for doing things the right way rather than not doing the wrong things.

TD23 said…
if u didnt have roadside food u wud never have delicacies like Bhelpuri, Puchkas, Rolls, Vadapavs, Chaats the likes!! i personally feel its not that good a decision. i mean cmon, roadside food have tonnes of buyers. and lets face it, the food is much betta in taste than the stuff u get in 5* hotels, and also at a cheaper price. as far as health is concerned, well obv we are taking a risk with street food, but street food cannot be blanket banned!! plus its a source of income to so many people. u cant just take away their livelihood by one decision. come up with plans for hawker mgmt. i mean thats the job of the govt rite?? if they cant do anyting about a problem, u just cant go ahead an ban it!1 road side food stalls provide food to a majority of the junta, not many can afford normal hotel rates everyday. so i personally dont feel that this decision is in the public interest.

frenchita said…
Is this a permanent decision or only while finalyzing the squatting schemes for Delhi ? If the latter ,then yes it is in the public interest .wehave to go by this decision . perhaps permanently too it will be banned in the future ...i see nothin wrong with that either .food on footpaths is unhygienic ..flies hovering over it .. the stalls preventing people from walking on pavements and tempting the police hungry for hapta .etc Home cooked food is cheapest and healthiest anyway

garfield1754 said…
The Supreme Court banned cooking at food vends on footpaths while finalizing the hawking and squatting schemes for Delhi. I think before comment on this one has to understnd what made Supreme court to gave such kind of vedict .I am not law student but let me say what i could interpret from this . The verdict says banned cooking food at vends on footpaths - So the word here is food .When we talk abt food we talk abt hygiene etc .Which is not possible at foothpaths Then it says footpaths - i think govt spent money on foothpaths so that ppl cud walk on it and nor that ppl have to walk thru garbage, etc etc So in a sense it is right of Supreme court in banning food at foothpaths . And if ur thinking what will these ppl do , where will poor ppl eat then it is another way of looking at things :-)

ruggedboyz said…
in a nation that is on the verge to developement such thing are to happen hawkers are to be moved out of certain high profile zones some strict measuers are to be deploye for a better tomorrow and that is all with a better tomorrow in mind

nz said…
Offcourse its in public interest - footpaths are meant for walking traffic. But govt should also think about the poor hawkers and give them some other option for earning their bread.

Shilpa and racism

Do you think that award to Shilpa will overshadow the controversy regarding racism and memories of the disgraceful moments ?

lavina said…
Well, after the unjustified hype and chaos created over the issue, it seems as if the result was just to prove that the European nations are not racist but support the truly deserving candidate! :)

umesh said…
The issue of racism is not new for Britain; it is just some issues come into focus and a numerous go unheeded. The color of the skin has been the sole reason because of which racism has been prevalent. I think we Indians too are the worst racists. To be honest, we have as much dirt to clean up in our own backyard. We have the worst forms of racism. We still have so many villages in India where the lower castes still can’t consume the water from the same well the upper castes drink. Even in cities, we don’t treat our servants with respect and dignity. Let us ask ourselves this question. Do we treat every human we meet everyday with the same levels of respect? Racism or not Shilpa Shetty surely is sitting on huge moneybox now. That’s how I see the whole issue.

lostpatrol53 said…
I am sure Shilpa has endured more insults in Bollywood from her industrywallahs, than at Big Brother House. She has come out of it with crowning glory and pots of gold. Shilpa, splash some of it in my motherland, please...including some on Udipi Dosas, Uthappas, and Idlis.. Racism? Yes, Indians are equally race consncious. Doctor, heal thyself, is the proverb I like to recall...

Sumit said…
I think it was a game and should have been played like one, we all know sledging is there in every game, but that doesn't mean we are going to start crying. But then again it all is a media gimmick and Even though what Shilpa did was natural, it could have easily been prevented from being telecasted on TV. Winning the competition might not revert the words, thrown by Jade and Co. but it somewhere would have widened the existing the already present racial divide, even in the minds of people who had nothing to do racism till now. At 7:39 PM, amita said…
M sure they made her win coz of the controversy ... Point is jst coz something is shown on Tv we cud raise voices against it .. What abt the racist things that happen abroad and about which we are not aware of ???

ruggedboyz said…
i think that the aversion the people in the big boss show had for shilpa, is an inate quality that the "goras" have and i dont think that the award was any consolation to all that brickbratting some how i am only happy it all ended and showed a picture of the goras mindset towards us

Rajesh (Kachra King) said…
well what ever is said and happened is bad .. sure it should be crushed ... but since shilpa won a price for what ever is said and done ... i believe the matter wud subside now ... its what one gains is more important ... thatz the way some people are ... u call them what ever u want then give them some money.... everything said is forgoten ... its sad .. but tru ... some people dont have self respect ... if shilpa had some then she wud not have accepted the price money and thrased the bloody European people

Abha said…
I think that it was just a publicity stunt and didn't deserve the kind of media attention it got in the first place. There are more serious issues in the world we live in than someone commenting on Shilpa. IT didn't deserve the headlines. Really upset about racism ?? Then find a way to deal with it in real world, its a serious issue. So what if someone passed racial comments on her- she got paid big bucks for it.

Santosh said…
I think the way Shilpa behaved is stunt of Gan.dhi.giri. As Nana Patekar said if I would have been there I would have slapped Jed for her misbehaviour not only against Shilpa but agianst all our proud nation India. Also this all looks to be publicity stunt n media gimmic. Overall this is all disgusting to us which cant be forgotten though Shilpa won the battle

DecentmonKey said…
No.. Award to Shilpa will be soon forgotten.. but the issue of racism highlighted in the world media will live on, imo..

frenchita said…
No ,it will not Shilpa was only the instrument to bring to light the racism that England still is capable of ! agree with Nana Patekar .

I have living in uk since 2 yrs and lemme b very clear that ppl here arent racist as many of our proud indians tend to think they r. Uk has got one of the most tolerant society and one which respects othr ppl's religions very well. Diwali/Id r celebrated with almost equal fanfare as xmas. I am still to come across an India which can handle its own racism that lies within the caste system v have within india. i am sure if brits etc come to india in such huge quantities and celebrate their festivals in such a big way, there wud b "protests" agnst them by our culturals watchdogs sayin that india is gettin corrupted by their presence. i think v gotta learn tolerance from UK esp london. as far as jade/danielle/jo r concerned, ppl in Uk hardly identify with them and they r all eqaully hated by brits as much as by others..Its only the media which made them celebrities and its media again which has killed their celebrity status. and for shilpa..well...it was a tv show and she has made huge moolah n kickstarted her career again.and thats spells success for her. what happnd is the house is history for her and smthng which made her win. and for those who think she won coz brits wanted to prove how magnimous they r..pls come n have a luk at the number of asians here..u wud knw y she won then :P:P:D:D

Housewives of Grandma Generation

Does Today's Mom Work Harder Than Housewives of Grandma's Generation?

Sharad said…
No, bcoz aajkal ki mummy log ka aadha kaam to bai karti hai, baki aadhe ka aadha papa log karte hain aur bacha hua hota nahi hai.

archie said…
i bet they do.........they've got to learn the use and handling of so many gadgets :))))

TD23 said…
well according to me, theres no comparison. back then the housewives used to do the household chores. the families were joint rather than nuclear. the workload was more on the housewife. nowadays, moms are working. and balancing work life and professional life aint a simple feat. agreed tht the bai does majority of the work, but its not like moms dont work at all. so wud finally like to conclude by saying that, moms of previous generations were majorly into household work (100%), and moms of the present generation are into professional work(60%) as well as house hold work(40%)

blogesh said…
BIG NO !

frenchita said…
different circumstances ..diifferent sets of values ill go with blogesh ..grandmas worked harder :)

Amar said…
No Now a days they have maids to help cooking , cleaning. they have only 1 kid who is at day care and school. hubby helps her in almost everything. nucleus families ....so no one to take care of , etc ... Hats off to Grandma gen ladies !

lavina said…
ek to na yeh debate...samajh sa nahi aaya...:) I mean why do we need to compare our moms to our grandmoms na??? Each one is operating in an environment with some or the other obstacles....lets be fair enough to them.

anjali said…
i think moms r tough as always.......... only d way they tackle wid d things getting improved wid d help of technologies...............:DD tc bye

wise donkey said…
do men today work harder than the grandpa's generation? why omit to ask that? why do we need questions like these. obviously it differs with different individuals. today women face different challenges, and when a woman dies every 5 minute due to childbirth in India and when she can be better off in Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, I would say things have not changed in a real sense for women. atleast in those days, people accepted women had issues, now people just focus on ash and shilpa and think women are doing fine..

Ban on AXN

The Centre has banned AXN channel for telecasting the “obscene” programme, World’s Sexiest Commercials. Is this move is in public interest or politically motivated?
lostpatrol53 said…
Neither. Our babus and netas still think they are our conscience keepers.

frenchita said…
whether it be politically motivated or not , the center has done well to ban this channel .

blogesh said…
content filter needs to be there in my opinion. i dont think this is politically motivated. however permanent solution need to be drawn on such issues which keep on going intermittently. btw, what about AXing the political netas who have crime records & cleansing the political system so that we setup good moral icons for our future generation ?

GussaWaala said…
How come the center does not ban corruption? Oops! they would end up banning themselves. Once again GOI has proven that they are nothing but a bunch of idiots with nothing better to do.

DecentmonKey said…
After consulting public, it should have laws and checks in place instead of such bans and moral policing at their descrition..

NZ said…
I can't understand who are they to dictate what we can or cannot watch. The adults know what to watch and what not and what to let their children watch and what not. The centre should ban most of the Bollywood movies and TV serials too if they want to ban 'obscene' programmes.Thats my opinion anyway.

Vrij said…
Crap.. let them ban the loose moralled women on *+ openly having extra-marital affairs on prime time tv.. let them ban the rakhi sawants gyrating to lewd n lowd sounds(not music)... let them ban bikini draped FTV that airs 'midnight hot' program at 6pm !!

It is a welcome development. In report submitted to Prime Minister, National knowledge Commission headed by Sam Pitroda has recommended for sweeping reforms in education, in line with the economic development India is presently witnessing. Sex Ratio

There has been a very sharp decline in the sex ratio in India in the past decade .
What are the factors responsible for this?

lavina said…
Attitude!!! towards female children....... belief !!!that they arent equal to male children treatment!!! of second class citizens.

abhilasha said…
one important reason is Inheritece.. all knows that the only boy hold the name of forefathers..

umesh said…
The bias against females in India is related to the fact that sons are looked to as a type of insurance. With this perspective, it becomes clearer that the high value given to males decreases the value given to females. The problem of marriage expenses and dowry system where a family of a prospective bride must pay enormous sums of money to the family in which the woman will live after marriage is also the reason.in rural India, the centuries-old practice of female infanticide and foeticide and still be considered as major reason. sex-selective abortion in urban India supported by greedy doctors are also important reason.

wise donkey said…
1.clinics which mention the sex of the child. (The decrease has increased with every decade. and no doctor has been punished till date, even though more than a million girls have died due to this) 2.Social thought that the son should take care of the family. (after all will baghban been a hit, if Amitabh had 4 daughters?) Either son in laws should take care of the girl's parents too or parents should stop spending on higher education and marriage and save that amount for their retirement. 3.Lack of awareness amongst guys that they dont get girlfriends because of this dwindling ratio.

Santosh said…
I think the main reason behind this is the insecurity for womens increasing in India. The way womens are getting raped very easily even in Police stations not less even childrens of 3-4 years are being raped. This is just irritating to anyone. So the peoples thinking better to have male baby. I dont support the abotrtions of female baby. But I think this may be a major reason behind this.

simi said…
I will say something different, its happening because of increase in disregard for/of females. and lack of awareness between the females themselves.

anjali said…
its old tradition dat sons r more important to continue d family tree and most importantly last rites cn be performed by them only..........we r trained like dat..............so we r greedy watever dey do wid us in dis world bt dey cn only lead us to salvation.........to d other world...........its really ridiculous........we need to change our outlook altogether.........its pity dat even educated ppl believe in dis....... tc bye

Hershey Desai said…
Speaking on general terms, if people are frankly, aborting the baby on finding out its a girl, thats just a damn shame. On what grounds really would you want an abortion? women these days do everything,...almost everything men do. Doctors lawyers engineers, hell..I have seen dozens of women who outrank the best of guys in engineering... my request..come on guys..keep the ratio in balance... i went out with a lot of gals when I was in college...am sure you guys must have to..don't you want your son to have that privilege? how do expect him to go with girls if they are so hard to find... the only alternative then is...guys?? don't even wanna go there...

Domestic Violence

Should Domestic Violence be dealt with privately or publicly?

tejbir said…
privately if its mild but if it crosses all excesses then make it public and bring the offending one to social shame HAPPY NEW YEAR, brother!

Frenchita said…
Domestic violence should always be dealt with ...in private... within family or in public ...in the courts Womens should be counselled to speak up and report it to the authorities . I am aware doing so will weaken their position in the household ..will hurt them and their children more ...but unless the perpretrator is reprimanded ..this evil in our society will continue to haunt us . There are enough organizations nowadays that will take up their case and protect them ..

Umesh said…
This is a serious social problem. Most of the cases it goes unreported. Victims prefer to suffer in silence because reporting leads to certain end of relation. education and economic independence can only be the solution to this social sickness. This will give women the courage to fight back.

DecentmonKey said…
Any violence is a crime and the perpetrator should not go scotfree.. the victims should be strong enough to report any abuse, which is not done in many domestic cases due to factors like societal pressure, children, financial dependence etc..

Lostpatrol53 said…
I go with a larger definition of violence, stretching it from its conventional, of physical abuse, to include cruelty in all its forms. Further, wives alone are not its victims, husbands, children and parents and siblings are too...Domestic viloence seldom remains private in India, as living quarters are cramped and even walls have ears, neighbors especially. Hence there is no choice there. What happens after its public differs, depending on 'mind your own business' attitude of neighbors, and 'limit of forebearance' by anyone of teh victims. Fight, flight, do or die etc.

Hershey Desai said…
the better question is...should domestic violence even exist? Ok, I can understand every family fights sometimes, but things should not get so out of hand that we need to ask questions like the ones mentioned here. Later Hershey Desai added…
Since domestic violence is very much a problem in this world, I feel it should be dealth with privately, that is, unless things get far too out of hand, meaning, if you significant other is abusing you to the point of physical harm or emotionally driving you to the point of suicide, then yes things need to be spilled into the public. For, I may not know of other countries, but we indians are a fierce lot and will not tolerate such insolent behaviour at all. If the person is hurting you, tell it to the public, they will hound him to no end... and who knows, with the guilt and shame and public humilation the person may improve and not do such a deed in the future. But don't fight people don't fight... wanna let some steam off, do what I do... take a nice stuffed punching bag and GO WILD!!! good anger management. Ofcourse you can also just leave a nice amount of superglue on your boss' chair...heheh

anjali said…
in my opinion.............d victims of domestic violence are so weak dat dey can't solve it privately........someone has to support them to raise their voice against it.......cz if dey r strong enuff dey ll never be victimised...... thanx for wishing me and make me feel i m wanted here on o3............:DD tc bye

Ban on Coca-Cola

Ban on Coca-Cola products is in the interest of society or it is political motivated?

frenchita said…
Not sure .. whatever it is .coca cola should be banned and our indian products encouraged

Santosh said…
Coke must be banned in India without taking political pressure from America. Nothing in India is in the interst of society, its bad politics only. Coprporate is a good movie on this subject.

tejbir said…
how long do we want our products to be sub-standard and saved from competition? as for harm that coke may have........ how long are we going to police what the populace eats and drinks? I don't drink coke/pepsi and always prefer Amul Kool (flavored milk) to any other cool drink but i don't advocate any sort of ban. banning things doesn't let people get mature besides huge loss of income for the state. do we really believe that Gujarat is a dry state? any idea how much revenue is lost just because it is wet under the table and how much corruption is abetted?

lostpatrol53 said…
As much as prohibition is in the interest of revenue department

ninja hershey said…
ahem... LONG LIVE COKE!!!!! PEPSI SUCKS!!! seriously, its just too much...all this bans...come on..we have been having coke for years... next people will ban sugarcane juice coz it has high sugar content thus making you fat. some things can't be banned. On a lighter note, did you know that if they did not add coloring to coke, it would be green in color.

DecentmonKey said…
Banning is not the solution.. but the food safety laws should be strengthened and stringent, for any global or local products..

lavina said…
mmm......would banning help if we are determined to drink?? Something else needs to be changed! MInd set.....

Busybee said…
I always felt that this banning is politically motivated...its dug up every time we want to twist US's arms...and these serve as a small reminder. There are so many ills in the Indian society, our water is polluted, some of our drugs are actually poison, and the first thing we go and ban is a drink that mostly the ones with money buy.

umesh said…
I am not for ban on Coca cola products. All other soft drink companies also violate rules. you can't punish just because they are american.I think this will give a wrong signal while India is one of it's close friends. Cheers, -us

GussaWaala said…
Why ban coca cola? If they did something wrong then let a proper and honest judicial process handle it. If coca cola is banned then India (and frenchita..lol) are saying that no Indian product or services should be sold anywhere in the world. Banning coca cola should go hand in hand with banning all out sourcing, BPOs, and garment exports too. Now does that make sense?

Ashiya said…
Hi, Not sure if any of such moves stops anything... i think it just gets more focus on the Bottled issues.. Wud such things stop a person from drinking Coke... Nah dont think so..

ruggedboyz said…
what i reckon on this one is some thing way away of all said above, that is that if i am to die or live no cola pesticides can make me live and no bactria be of help either to improve my position and so banning cola for me is like u bar from mountaineering coz u fear one of the visiting patron may slip in one word "stupid"

Ban on Processions

Processions and Protest marches taken out by political parties, trade unions and
other social and religious organisations create much inconvenience to road-users.
Should there be complete ban on such type of Processions?

Tejbir said…
rather than banning them why not start imposing some kind of fees? this way, the state will earn some revenue and people who face probs could be taxed a little less and then it will also bring out how many people "really" support the cause for which they take out processions will they pay to support the cause?

Savy said…
not a second thought on this..these should be banned impromptu. tej..state earns enuff already and wheres this revenue going to come from?political parties earn public money only. I think there should only be debates on prime tv :)

Gangadhar said…
there should be a ban but not completely..sparing some busy areas like..

frenchita said…
No ..cannot ban these things ..not in a democratic country like ours . govt should insist on some rules laid down ..processionists should pay for police security and all other charges incurred .. any deviations ..any rough stuff ..and police have the final say in closing down the processions ..

DecentmonKey said…
People will take out processions to protest even this proposed ban on processions.. in a democracy, people have a right to protest against any injustices.. better solution will be to restrict them in only certain areas so as to cause minimal disruption to general public..

Sumit said…
I think that there should be a dedicated place for such possessions where such organizations can protest as per thier wish without disrupting the normal life, and the concerned authority or people should be answerable to these protests at the end of the day... so that the protest can lead to some sort of result.
wise donkey said…
complete ban is wrong. but since they cause probs, let them be regulated. only certain zones, and only during certain hours for religious, political, and trade union ones. for issues relating to environment and health and people, if they are relevant to that date, exceptions should be made. for eg : for ngos on water probs on the un nominated date. those who want to protest otherwise should simply wear badges, or tshirts which speak about the issue, in their day to day life.

umesh said…
Right to protest is the fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution.People have no other suitable platform to register their protest to catch attention of people from the government. We are proud to be the citizen of this great democrcy. There is no question of banning them. But we can workout a plan to cause minimum inconvenience to the general public. cheers, -us

Dating Allowance

Should employees be paid dating allowance?

Is India ready for dating allowance?

taira said…
Well in my opinion its all a matter of perspectives. What is dating allowance..........just some extra bonus money being distributed by companies for the benefit of their employees and this term/activity definitely sounds a lot more recreational. But why the hullaboo over it..... just take it as any other allowance being given by the organisation....say, like birthday allowance. Whether its dating or birthday, its not necessary that we spend or utilise it for that purpose only. Even if we do, so what.....all the more better. But this hype is there because an employee was dating another one within the same organisation despite being married. Well the allowances does not have to do anything with it. If a person has to go two ways, it would still go for it...whether within the organisation or outside it. And btw, even our company gives us both but this has never ever created any problems because of it. So stop comparing the two and see them as two different aspects. Cheers :))

ninja said…
Dating allowance? Got no clue what it is but from what I can sum up its basically telling your boss to give you a little extra cash so you can go dating your partner instead of working... sure..what a brilliant idea that is to get money...idiots...don't you know anything about good advertising. You should ask for extra tuiton allowance...tell the boss that you want to improve your skills at work and are willing to join tuitons at his expense..use that money for dating..atleast he will give the cash that way...but yea "dating allowance"... I do like that...worth a shot to use on dad. "dad I need my allowance.." he gives it to me. "and dad..i need my dating allowance too"... will probably get shot in the head..but its worth a try. so shawan...how are you?

dating allowance...............gud idea....having fun on company's expense......gr8888!!

tejbir said…
i don't need a dating allowance but i do need a dating leave atleast 24 in a year!!!

umesh said…
I heard about a wife who is complaining about the dating allowance being given to husband by a company in the US. well...people complain only they see misuse of the purpose. Increase in the bonus might serve as more meaning than giving allowances in the name of dating ; it looks so odd and funny. chers, -us

frenchita said…
never heard of it until now ...in the US that is anyhow if the company wants to give one to an employee to destress while out with a date ..I suppose it is alright .. I dont see how this can be abused .. I love what the ninja says here ... wow ..India sure is making progress ..and in the right direction too !!

lavina said…
Dating allowance? I do not mind coz:- 1) All inflows are welcome....I do not care the head under which they are clubbed.... 2) One query....would there be any tax deductions??? 3) Any qualifications required?? lolz... Let us have it anyways...ha ha

The Bard said…
dating allowance ??...as such the company said to be giving this has refused there is no such allowance given...from my perspective i have seen many companies encoruaging inter company dating and they provide huge marriage allowances if 2 of their employees make a couple.. just one way to keep both husb n wife in the company so that they spend more time in office than at home ..everything leads to exploitation

ruggedboyz said…
on dating allowance i think that , the term dating is a loose ly used term isnt dating all about just meeting a person so if ur are given a certain amount to chill with ur friends and kins i see no wrong and see indi always ready for such stuff thanx byee see you shrawan

Indian youth and Happiness

A survey has placed Indian youth among the happiest in the world.

What are the factors that makes the youth happy?

Busybee said…
its contentment with our lot in life alongwith the social life i.e. a family around for moral support, religion etc which keeps Indians happy.

ninja said…
why any youth is at the peak of happiness? the fact that they have the strength and stamina and will to do crazy stuff. You will rarely see a 50 year old go skydiving... Being young is always the key factor to happiness... and those old fellas who are getting disappointed ...don't be... the key to be young is to feel young...in your mind and heart if you are a teen..then you are a teen.

Lust4Life said…
Its the carefree attitude of the youth that keeps them happy always.

frenchita said…
Although Indians have limited choice compared to the West as far professions are concerned , they manage to be content and prosperous with the system they have. Most Indian youth want to get educated and progress further . Their ideals are democratic ..not too religion based .or regionally based as were their parents before them . Don't forget Internet has opened new horizons for Indian youth who genetically are endowed with a scientific and mathematical state of mind beyond any other race of youths in the world This era on internet communication and inventions is just perfect for the Indian brain. There are no limitations on the horizon for them .

savy said…
indian youth is happy because for one youth also means a sort of freedom from some bindings because of the family protectiveness..and at the same time he feels secured even after grown up coz at the time of anycrisis..theres always family around.Decisions in Indian families are usually taken together so theres generally less burden.so..i wd attribute it all to our culture and familial ties.

tejbir said…
Indian society's renaisance is what makes a part of Indian youth happy BUT, i believe its a fallacy, given the youth in rural areas: farmers as young as 28 committing suicide in AP/Maharashtra and youth in non-descript towns of Kalahari/Kolkata working in inhuman conditions apart from many other incidents that dont catch the interest of the fourth estate make me reject this survey we are talking about here

wise donkey said…
there was another survey last month which didnt put us on the happiness map. it depends on who they were talking to. If one goes by sheer numbers, i dont think Indians can be happy. there is no social security, no employment opp for everyone like the scandinavian countries or fair laws or harmony. if they are happy what are they happy about ? they have pepsi and can go to macdonalds?

umesh said…
Indian youth is educated, confident, self reliant. Motivated by the economic boom, supported by family background and generation of positive approach make the youth to more happier than ever. They are ready to face any challenges. Cheers, -us

I think it is because of their spiritual enlightenment. www.tekno-world.blogspot.com

i think youth is an age where most are care free and so most people in their youth are people who care not of things that need actually some anxiousness are let go by them well why indian ? if is asked to me that is quiet a fix i thought coz indians are happy in less unlike their middle east or western counter point but some how i dont think it has indian thing to do with it !!

Domestic Violence Act

Do you think that Domestic Violence Act would be sufficient to end
the problem of abuse?
Is the Domestic Violence Act harsh on Indian men?

tejbir said…
At the outset its an utter shame on Indians to have an act such as this to protect women when we are a nation which has for over 1000s of years worshipped women in so many forms. I'd prefer a manner where a man is put to shame for abusing physically any woman and i don't accept any reason what so ever for physically assulting a woman there are many civil ways to put across any injustice by women

umesh said…
We have so many rules for the better governance. Every time when people find it easy to break it a new law comes into force. We have enough misuse of many rigid laws, many times by the originator them selves. When TADA was found to be not enough another law was put in force. As long as if you dont prevent the law makers from breaking it,any kind of strict law is use less.

Rajesh(Kachra King) said…
well hlaf the indian women who get beetings and keep quite are pativrata .. and basically dun go and complain .. to provoke these women there are non-pativrata women who form social organizations. Of the rest some women are over morden .. they have back-ups ... the rest are rebllious .. even if nothing happens then they beat themselves and go and report ... poor Man where does is stand .. ** I am not mocking .. this is on serious note ..

ruggedboyz said…
if the law can be of help bring to book the drunked man who has the knack of hitting his better half for fun, on her legible demands and for an object of taking his frustration out then it is fine but but but if it gives immense power to women using it for personal vendetaa then is where the problem and the writing on the wall for me take care see you byee

frenchita said…
so happy to know that there is a domestic violence act in place now ..even if it doesnt end the violence .it will certainly be a deterrent for the man and his family ..and it gives the woman a tool to use when she is in trouble no , the domestic act is not harsh on an Indian man ..not on any man..he need not worry about it if he is not guilty ..remember no woman likes to go on record or to court citing physical abuse from her man ..it is so demeaning . the abuse of woman will continue in my opinion ..why in the first place do we need a mandate from the law to take care of it..does man not have a sense of right and wrong , might not being right ..in every case ? its a shame !

Binoe said…
Its all am Un Democratic Law passed by certain Hon. Ministers to secure thier seats in the forth comming elections and encouraging Un Democracy in the Worlds Largest Democracy.

savy said…
not at all..i think it will be grossly misused like the antidowry law.

Rajeev said…
It is surprising that women support domestioc violence.

ninja said…
its just sad to know that society even NEEDS such an act. I don't get it...simply don't get it...what kind of a sick demented individual hits women...

DecentmonKey said…
Domestic violence should not be tolerated, but any unfair law is not a solution.. laws should be one and equal to all irrespective of any gender based descrimination..

Financial Literacy course at school level

CBSE is planning to introduce a job-oriented course at the 10+2 level that will teach children about money management, saving insurance and the stock market.
Do you think that this move will rob children of their childhood?

savy said…
i dont think so..it will gear them and utilise their time better. In anycase..theres barely any childhood left at this level..children are mainly slogging fr their exams and entrances.i prefer this to slogging anyday

Busybee said…
No it wont. It will teach them things they need to know. But it remains to be seen as to how many will really 'learn' & 'remember'. Most of us study only to get through the exams :D. IMO this course should be added to every stream after +12

ninja said…
no... for what its worth this may actually be HELPFUL. See after going through this, one can actually use a lot of technical terms on their dads to help extract more allowance money... any chance I can get around..60000 bucks in advance?

Rajesh(Kachra King) said...
How can studying something rob children of their childhood?? But what does CBSE reallt ubted ti do? does is mean that Govt. is encouraging children to start working after +2 ???

ruggedboyz said…
now if grown ups of 10+2 level and not kids are gonna learn the ropes of business and management, i see no reason to ever blink an eye lid over it

DecentmonKey said…
In fact it is good for the youth to get some education in financial field.. as long as corporates or professionals with vested interest are not be allowed to infiltrate these courses in any way..

umesh said…
I dont think it will. children will study the subject like as any other subjects with the intention to get through. But it remains to be seen who will take up seriously for a job.It is a tender age meant only for learning, not for earning, if they do,they might get lost in the midst of so called money managers.

BEPenfriends said…
It helps them to manage money because this is the age they are spending a lot of money on waste things. If they know how to manage they will produce wealth from that

frenchita said…
No no ..it would be totally welcome practical and useful in life too ...unlike calculus !!

Renaming a City

Bangalore to Bengaluru

Does it make any sense to change the name of a City?

ruggedboyz said…
how progressive are we not , we are people who can put millions to change a humble name we care not for the tax paying public we are indiffrent to the ones that already got use to it , also to the cosmopolitian that has evovled their we only want to change name s and prove our superiority but we are only wasting money in the name of this silly rechristening

Saaya said…
guess the brand "BANGALORE" will remain even if it becomes "Bengaluru" !! guess instead of debating over name ; govt should concentrate on other important matters in the city. Our leaders are always very wise to redireect peoples attention to some unrelated topics to cover up urgent and important topics. If "Bengaluru" comes up along with better roads and less traffic jams; less cost of living as a package it makes a lot sense. otherwise it it "Bangalore " or "Bengaluru" it does not make difference for a normal bangalorean like me !!

Wise donkey said…
either way its fine. as long as we dont lose perspective on whats important. this is not a priority definitely.

Frenchita said…
Yes. All our cities should be named the Indian way ...no reminders of British or Muslim rule .. doing so is not taking away from any other priorities ..like feeding the poor .! but it does instill a sense of patriotism in us ..

Umesh says: said…
Re naming the city sometimes invite bring irritation to people. When bombay was renamed as mumbai there were a lot of agitation.Even I felt bit unusual. But Bengaluru, I Like it. Because it is Namma Bengaluru. It is a good beginninig for karnataka.

DecentmonKey said…
Rechristening in bits and parts, cities then airports etc.. with neither national consensus nor referandum shows the regionalism and whims and fancies of state governments or their leaders.. If renaming is desired by the people, it should start with renaming India as Bharat first..

Rajesh (Kachra King) said…
Well now a days folks dun know how to spell simple regional words .. they add english accent to them .. so whatz the point changing bangalore to bengaluru :P .. I doubt anyone can say it so traditionally .. but then its good to have the original names back .. i dun have anything against them ....

Rajeev Vashisht said…
Where public sentiments are involved, public should be allowed to do what they want.

Tejbir said…
change of name can be out of two reasons political or actual reason supported by the populace while earlier ends at being a gimmick and is never accepted vernacularly, the later is good as it answers the beliefs of the people and their history, culture and should be respected

Bepenfriends Blogs said…
It is a waste of time, effort. Instead of changing the name they must have changed the Infra structure of Bangalore. Anyway we are going to call as Bnagalore instead of Bengaluru.

o3ninja said…
hmph..whats in a name... i have seen places called " hell" ...even worse.. i know a place called "sample"...can you believe going there...seeing a signboard " You are in sample"...read it a few times fast to figure out what it says...but hey..they changed bombay to mumbai..so well..it doesn't make a damn difference...its a city..no one is going to tease a city you know. cities don't have feelings... all this ruckus for a name...

Cellphones and Kids

Do you think that cellphones are distancing kids from their family?

savy said…
absolutely yes! they are at a call away from the distractions..and most of the time havenot heard whatever is told to them..repeating becomes so irritating and avoidable exercise. They are tuned 24x7 to their own planet...

frenchita said…
Don't know about distancing from family ..but kids should not be allowed to have cell phones unless it is to keep in touch .. for safety's sake . It has been abused , both by parents and kids alike . Granted the cell phones are a boon ,but also the reason for car accidents ,aloofness from family and nuisance at airports .

Rajeev Vashisht said…
I think kids should learn every thing from their childhood. They need to learn how to use phone so that in emergency they can contact their parents or handle the situation. Also it makes the kids more tech savvy.

ellen said…
There are several pros and cons to that question, I agree. And I'm on the side of the one that works to keep the family unit ---- intact, sound, and working together responsibly on areas of major concern. But Everything in life, as we all know it to be, has its own time and place. So for our children --- it's their time to be children. Let them then be themselves - children! A celphone too soon will rob them of the beautiful innocense and simplicity of childhood. How are you, Shrawan? Hope that the week was good to you. May the weekend be just as fine. God bless you and your family. :-)

Lust4Life said…
"Very true, since u find kids spending quality time with their cellphones than wid the family."

Busybee said…
I dont see how mobiles could be distancing kids from their families, but this could surely spoil them for the worse, as a distraction.

DecentmonKey said…
I dont think so..

ruggedboyz said…
instead of balming the good old cellphone i shall likke to blame the technology of today as a whole the cells to the televisions boquet of channels, o the internet unplugged into them,to the cars,to all the techno gadgets when used in dicey proportions are a matter of concern why call cell by the dirty name

surabhi said…
nope...its another thng dat parents thnk so....it certainly isnt distancing us frm ur folks...its only dat we r more closer to our frnds dat way!!

o3ninja said…
i guess it depends... women, teenage women specifically should NOT be given cellphones... they talk for ages...I have seen my sister's cellphone bill...ranges in a 4 figure amount...mine is around 700 everytime... cellphones are crucial so kids can communicate with their parents if in crisis or any situation...basically they are for emergency use...not to call up a friend to chit chat.

wise donkey said…
cellphones are useful. its upto the parents to lay down the rules and prevent misuse and also look in to the health aspects of its frequent usage.

rajesh (Kachra King) said…
Well some times its good to have an established communication channel with kids .. there are phones that have pre configured dailing. they should be good. but then giving then a phone with extensive dialing I would discourage

anjali said…
today most important is to make children understand the use and misuse of technology as it is useful to them as well as harmful.......u can't be vigilant all the time and can't restrict them also....as dey hv always upperhand in dis case.........jitna aap nahi jante ho dey knows about the latest gizmos so........just make them aware of everything is i think the best way........:)) noway........the relationship is gonna affect in my opinion......
