Its this which makes them fighters.. I would say that the single board exam should be CBSE standards for all the schools through out the country.

In our country even at 18 youth are still in schools mostly or just out of it. Apart from that even at that age they are still in the formative state well protected by parents or elders. In western countries children are given a lot more freedom making them understand their responsibilities earlier than our youth.

What Mr. Tata should have done was not to involve the govt in the first place and directly dealt with the farmers himself.My point of view here - I agree completely with capitalism and the encouragement of business and enterprise but its cannot be at the cost of human rights. Never. profitability can never be at the cost of destryoing human rights.You cannot build your castle on other peoples graves!!A man has every right to his property and that right has to be upheld. Busybee says: "Co-ED" hostel is an oxymoron :D Whats wrong with a combined hostel, wrt Indian background ? anyone staying in a hostel has plenty of freedom even otherwise, to do just what they want। We make too much out of our "Indian" background... like the rest of the world has no culture or background. unisex hostels are a better idea if one has to focus on education tho :D.

I now speak from my personal experience. I have been interacting with youngsters, both boys & girls, of 15 to 30. The amount of things I have learnt is amazing. Parents would never ever imagine that. They have had much more exposure to sex even while in 9th standard or so. This has been confided by girls as well as boys. My advice to all of them has always been " There is nothing right or wrong. It is all in minds of people. There is age and time for everything. They should think of consequences of their acts and follow what conscience permits." This is exactly what I had told my children too when they were in final years of schooling. Be more friends to your children than parent. There is nothing wrong in having co-ed hostels but with proper administration and counselling.

Busybee says: hmm... this one is difficult to comment on। Mostly girls arent that much into engg :D. The % of girls is less than 1/10 of the guys॥at IIT Mum, if I am not mistaken. If what he says is true, then the girls also shud go to the coaching class way.. The best cant be kept away... by the less than the best. Hard to buy argument that.... meaning that the best wud reach the top w/o an IIT degree too. An IIT degree is not the ultimate guarantee of success..

After repeated advertisement to watch people around you for doubtful behavior, they successfully plant bombs at more than 20 places in 2 cities. None of the citizen saw them. What politicians do ? They will blame each other and do not let police work properly. If few of them are arrested and beaten by the public, they may not do that again. Those who plant the bombs are more probably not armed. Though tough rules will help to minimize the frequency of blasts, it won't stop that.

How would u explain the serial blasts across 2 cities and not even the intelligence agencies having a clue regarding them. Mechanisms such as social security numbers could go a long way in ensuring we have everyone accounted for. Survival of UPA Government

The nuclear deal will go through. If UPA, with SP support, does not manage the numbers inside the house (majority of attending and voting NO) to defeat the no confidence motion that the left might table, and has to resign, then it will remain as caretaker sarkaar till early next year. CAn we say, if that is how it turns out, it is not full term? In my view, the political dynamincs has changed entirely since last elections in 2004. It is time for all alliances to be recast based on a re-assessment of geo-political and geo-economical realities as will as the emerging power centres in international relations. Giving six months for such a process, it makes sense to have elections by late 2008 and early 2009. The added benefit of early elections: a) the campaign vehicles will raise less dust in the rural areas. b) there will be enough to eat after the harvest and industrial bonuses. c) there will be enough suger, cane and alcohol to entice voters to the booths. d) school-kids can sleep in the day and study during night under parental watch. e) anyone can add to this list, which i snot exhaustive॥

IITs mentoring the lesser engineering institutes will set some "standard" for those institutes which is good ...

Supreme Court and Landlord

Niceguy251 says: We have to first see if it is residential property which is being used by tenent for commercial purpose then it is illegal as it is but if it is commercial then we need to be fair to both. It is ridiculous that rent of Rs 100.00 pm is being paid for shops in Conaught Place by old tenents and at the same time if owner wants to evict tenent just to have little more rent is also not palatable. The law should protect both. There should be a legal lease document for fixed period and it could be renewed only if both parties agree. Owner should not be allowed to evict tenent during currency of agreement except if it is being used for illegal purposes and similarly if the agreement is over and tenenat is not vacating the place should be sealed pending judgement. And in such cases the tenent should be asked to pay legal costs as well as penal rent ( say triple the pervailing market rent ) if it is proved he is at fault.

What we need to do is that give say 10% allowance on marks. Let me explain this. If seats are 100, so open category seats are at present 73, if 73rd person has secured 82% bring it down to 72% for reserved category and all those from that category who are above that be taken to fill 27 seats. If any seats are left then it can to back to merit list one by one following the same principle till all seats are filled. This way we do afford opportunity to those who need it without comprosing quality. We should try to spread education facilities to all so competetion can be fair. For this fee concessions may be given to needy class. AND LET US NOT POLITISE THIS ISSUE.

We need to take an open minded look at causes of our failure in Hockey as well as other games. In olden days hockey was game of dribbling and if I am not mistaken Dhyan Chand was a wizard at carrying the ball all the way to opponent's goal dodging their defence. In one of the tournaments it was suggested that his hockey stick has glue to keep the ball stuck. It was checked and allegation found to be untrue. But thereafter hockey has been developed into a game of cross passes by European countries which we have not been able to properly assess & incorporate in our strategy for the game. And of course politics in our sports orgnisations is also to be blamed to a large extent. Polo was also originated in India so it should also be given it's rightful place apart from Hockey.

Lionking says: i heard that these women cab drivers are given courses of self defence like karate, etc. but, as naveen mentioned ... these women cab drivers should be tried in the day shifts first ... and after seeing their results ... they can be tried in around the clock. in hyd, we have women conductors in the state transport busses ... so i dont see why there would be any problem for women in daylight. but, sure this is going to be quite a risky proposition both for the cab service operators and the women cab drivers themselves. the best part in the service is that the drivers are given their own walky talky so that they can remain in touch with the control room ... and possible with the police.

it indeed sad to note that 3 crores cases are pending in Indian Courts. This can be best seen in the recent advertisement of Plywood, wherein the case of some young people drags on till they become old, and still after that the case is adjourned. the first thing is the lawyers reluctance to get a final verdict on the case, fearing that their Case money would be deprived off them if the case is closed earlier. second, the ignorance of the common people who have not enough knowledge of the legal procedures, and tend to wholly depend on the lawyers, and find that their verdict is being postponed because of the first reason mentioned above. third, not enough Law Staff to deal with the ever increasing cases, and the government giving a blind eye on the matter. fourth, political motives which would like to have the cases drag on instead of complete closure of the cases. fifth, the complexity of the indian laws make it much time consuming process, hence the delay. all the reasons mentioned above do contribute to the adding up of the cases.

This surely looks very sad state of affairs. What we need is proper analysis. Out of these 3 crores pending cases how many are at which level of courts, how many fall under petty cases category and last but not the least how many have had NO progress for the last six months or more due to non attendance of either party by virtue of taking shelter behind medical or legal excuse. Once this study is done it may be that most of these are either trival cases or manipulated for dates. That is where law needs to change with times to keep pace.

A wonderful gesture indeed. Given the Indian context it cud become counterproductive. People now will have an unobstructed outlet to leave such child girls, fully aware that gud care wud be taken. This geture has to be rigoursly followed up wid educating the younger masses the moral implications of their deeds. I suppose there cant be one single - either /or - situation. A lot depends on the location of the woman - metro/city/town/village. Traditions may have little values in big cities like Mumbai & career would be the only thing, yet in a smaller town , say in Bihar, the reverse would be true. Both would be correct in their respective conditions. The next factor, India being a large country, would be the family background, tradition, beliefs etc. as well as those of the family she goes to would matter. How could they make such a sweeping statement; it's taken case to case. lols I think that marriage, live-in, or any other relationship for that matter, would truly depend on the persons involved in it. I see some marriages in which the husband shares in the housework beautifully ....and some live-in arrangements in which the male is such a big lazy inconsiderate slob. What would make this work or make the male actively involved in the responsibilities of keeping house is a no-nonsense approach to this kind of issue. A broader understanding of expectations obligations and responsibilities and a realistic view of the marriage can pave the way for doing what should be jointly done in the home. The old Stereotypes of male and female roles are disappearing and replaced by this kind of give-and-take environment in home management. I don't believe that one should do specific things just because she is female... or rather that one should not do anything that a female is expected to do because he is male. That doesn't work anymore. It's old school. A relationship of sharing has a better chance of making it in this rough and tumble world of marriages or live-in's. Ban on Women Bartenders

Delhi Government feels that there should be a ban on women bartenders in the city. Reason-Men often make advances towards women under influence of liquor leading to offensive behaviour which is an affront to the dignity of women .
Do you think that Ban is justified?

Instead of banning, perhaps the bars must ensure, the women can get away with slapping the man back, if any advance is made..instead of please the customer attitude..How may women behind the bar are in a postition to refuse advances? Many would have a different view point if it was their mother sister or wife behind the bar..

I think women react emotionally faster than men and this turns out to be advantageous to them as HR PROFESSIONALS ....but as far as listening, understanding, empathising n helping goes.....it depends upon person to person....... to be a successful HR PROFESSIONAL .....all u need is a good mix of FEMININE AND MASCULINE TRAITS ......so anybody who possess it (be it a man or woman) would be successful ......

I think both genders would do equally well at the job. :-) No argument there. I've seen my friends, male and female, excelling at their HR posts. It's not who's better at it, but rather who can be more effective with using the talents GOD provided each one of the two genders separately and distinctly. Women are equipped by an all-wise and knowing God with the distinct ability to NURTURE growth - development - maturity in a person. Nurturing or the mother instinct as commonly known therefore is a woman's basic function. That, as I understand it, can work wonders in a people-oriented job as HR. While the men, as is generally known, are more adept with facts and figures thus are far more capable of executing firm policies, rules, and company regulations decisively. I think the two can work together complementing each other 's roles. One can fill-in the other person's weakness with his or her own strength and vice-versa. That can be a power-packed duo to beat!

Children come to school to learn. If they make mistakes in the classroom and surely they would, the teacher should focus on the learning opportunity of that moment. Because the greatest lessons can be had and learned through one's honest mistakes, whether inside or outside of the classroom.

Even though I am totally against hurting/abusing a child or student but there should be some sort of consequences for misbehaviour otherwise kids will get out of hands and India will face the same situation as most of the western world where parents or teachers cant do much and the teenagers are getting into crime and ending up in prisons. may be encouraging positrive behaviour, talking to parents or counselling should be considered as some of the options but children should know that there should be some consequence if they dont follow the rules.

Schools are temples of learning, and apart from bookish lessons their are moral lessons to be learnt, which include that if you make mistakes without learning from them, you are bound to be punished .. so if we take the scolding or punishing part out the equation, children might be inclined towards making same mistakes again and again and not learn from them. There have been rare cases of teachers who have gone to extremes in punishing the students (which are bad) but the whole thing has been blown out of proportion (again by media), and people are now using it to tarnish the image of Teachers in general.

yes .. and we all know what kind of restrictions ..on what kind of clothes ..applies to the girls mostly ..but may apply to boys also ...like very short short shorts or tightttt jeans or footwear required ... more important than that is to enforce that the students attend classes or else be made to fail ..

I believe that in every person's closet are different sets of clothes -- one for every place, purpose, and occasion. Casual for everyday wear, modest for church, business for board meets, gowns for gala nights, play garbs for sports , etc etc. School wear can't be any different. The thing is--- it is a place for learning. And the least distractions one gets or gives should be the norm or dress etiquette. That carries on to one's style of dressing. The girls should not bare themselves unrestrained; that should be reserved for glamorous evening wear or for frolic on the beach with beach attire. The guys could also exercise some restraint in wearing those heavy leather jackets; those belong on big motorbikes and in the winter season. It's plain old common sense and respect - you find yourself in a particular place for a particular reason. So then think, speak, act, and dress accordingly. Unless you're there for a different reason.
